Merle is studying International Management and Engineering at Hamburg University of Technology and is part of the University Innovation Fellow cohort 2019. By getting involved in changing higher education, Merle is one of the members of the second leadership circle of her campus. She has a bachelor’s degree in Energy and Environmental Management which she acquired in Flensburg, the northernmost city of Germany. There she learned a lot about conventional and renewable energies. Next to renewable energies Merle is very interested in further sustainable solutions that solve the problem of sustainable energy production, distribution and utilisation.

In her master’s degree, she focuses on technology management, worked in the Institute of Technology and Innovation Management, has already participated in a Design Thinking Workshop and supported a project in which the analogy method is applied in the context of an open innovation approach.

Merle is keen to explore things. After her A-Levels she went traveling in New Zealand, Australia and the Fijis. In addition she went twice for a semester abroad in Asia (Universitas Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta Indonesia, National University of Singapore). Meeting and working with different people is a pleasure for her. In her opinion you can learn from everyone; especially if people are fundamentally different. Traveling has enriched her mindset due to that learning effects. Therefore she tries to take any chance to travel and explore as much as she can.
