Bio

Sota Yoshimoto is a junior student at Tohoku University, where he belongs to the Faculty of Science and is majoring in Geography. He is born and raised in Hokkaido, Northern Island in Japan. He dedicated his high school days for his Judo practice to win championships as well as studying to pass the entrance exam for University. He has done his study abroad at Pennsylvania State University in the U.S. from August in 2021 to June in 2022. In addition to geography classes, he took classes about population, technology of energy and renewable resources and positive psychology, following his huge curiosity.

Sota believes that sensing differences in identity by changing neighborhoods you live with makes one find out what is one's identity and fundamental theories underlying this society. His days at Penn State has made him open-minded and boost his love to Japan and his home. Furthermore, his friends taught him the importance of having the greatest love of family and friends and keeping that. He grew up greatly as Japanese and global citizen throughout this exchange program. His belief resulted in his role at Tohoku University. He has started providing international students coming from abroad with supports in daily life, learning Japanese and so on, by working as AA at Global Learning Center. Additionally, he has been a member of Global Campus Supporter, a student organization that helps Tohoku University students who are looking for opportunities experiencing in foreign countries. He is passionate about helping these students and making their time in other countries great.

Sota is looking forward to trip across this world to explore unfamiliar culture. While in the U.S., he had traveled to a couple of cities and enjoyed local foods and events. Among these, he loves Boston and got overwhelmed with the Winter Christmas orchestra there. This made him open minded to any culture he have not seen ever. He foresee his future working worldwide, exploring diverse local foods and festivals and interacting with lots of friends.
