Bio

Mariko Ikeda is a sophomore student at Tohoku University, where she belongs to the Faculty of Law and is interested in Legal negotiations and Modern politics analysis. She was born and raised mainly in Tokyo, especially in a race-diverse region. One-fourth of her classmates have foreign roots, and this practical experience of ethnic diversity are her assets and driving force behind her current efforts.

During her high school days, she was dedicated to many activities such as school swimming club, international exchange program with New Zealand, and a student writer job in Yomiuri Shimbun, which is a famous newspaper company in Japan. In all activities, she was trusted by everyone, and she worked as a leader. She believed that a leader should not be too attentive, a leader should play a role of paying careful attention and supporting to every members.

After entering university, she tried everything she wanted, such as participating in Intercollegiate Negotiation Competitions, doing volunteer work in Minamisanriku, where earthquake and tsunami was hit and damaged seriously in 2011, teaching entrepreneurship at Sapporo-Keisei high school in Hokkaido, taking part in Demola program, which is the opportunity to do meaningful project studies as part of interdisciplinary team and international community.

All past practical experiences affect her a lot. She believes that these kinds of experiences gave her different perspectives, and she can evaluate things from diverse shafts. Also, she undergoes not only success but some failure. In the case of failure, she learned that looking forward quickly and preparing for the next step is the best way to achieve her missions.

From now on, continuing to cherish her knowledge, she tries what she is interested in.
