Bio

Inés Blanes was born and raised in Spain. She moved to the Netherlands in order to pursue a bachelor's degree at the University of Twente (UT), where she graduated in Civil Engineering. She is now studying a master's in Transport, Infrastructure, and Logistics at TU Delft. In her free time, Inés enjoys a good film or series, music, history, and sports (specially swimming).

UIF Projects

Inés joined the University Innovation Fellows in 2023 where, jointly with her cohort, she worked on several projects. During her first year as a fellow, Inés and her cohort launched a campaign against burnout on campus, where awareness about the topic was spread around as well as tools to fight it and/or overcome it.

On her second year as a fellow, UIF Twente started to notice a rapid decrease in student engagement. Associations and initiatives around campus were struggling to find interested people. In order to understand the root causes of this issue, UIF Twente reached out to the Student Union and Inés co-conducted a campus-wide survey. The survey got over 500 responses. Based on these responses, Inés co-organized a think tank session where all associations on campus and interested people could join. From the think tank session, different strategies and solutions were identified. Once the root causes of the problem had been uncovered (through the survey) and solutions had been drafted, a booklet was developed describing the entire process of the project as well as presenting the results, possible solutions and recommendations for recruiting new students. This booklet was handed out to associations and initiatives at the university.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, it was not possible to accept a new cohort to Twente in 2024. However, the recruitment process had already been carried out and people had been selected. Still wanting them to be involved, Inés and her cohort offered an unofficial Twente-based training. This way, what would have been the new cohort could still be involved at an unofficial and local level. Therefore, Inés co-created a training that would only apply to the University of Twente in order to tackle problems on campus with more capacity.

Inés served as financial coordinator of UIF Twente from 2024 to 2025. More recently, she was involved in organizing the 2024 UIF Meetup in Twente which brought around 350 people to the University of Twente.
