Bio

“Happiness develops when you are working on something bigger than yourself. It is attained slowly, little by little, as you build yourself up. It develops as you develop your altruism. You find happiness by committing to other people and positivity, by working to better yourself and find real meaning in your life.” ― Robert Gill Jr., Happiness Power: How to Unleash Your Power and Live a More Joyful Life

Timotius Haniel, an enthusiastic person, a risks taker, and an adaptable person. Born from a simple family in a small town called Cianjur in West Java, Indonesia. However, this does not make me a person who is discouraged. But it makes me want to keep getting up and running to achieve the dream I've been dreaming of. I believe that everyone has their own path in life that can bring an interesting story that gives color to this world.

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

I believe that the only way that can change the life of my family and myself is education. This is what inspires me in life. In 2018, I managed to get a full scholarship to study at Institut Teknologi Harapan Bangsa in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. It doesn't make me complacent, I still want to keep getting up and running. In early 2021, I successfully passed the Google Bangkit Academy, Google Bangkit Academy is an exclusive and prestigious technology academy held by Google in collaboration with world-class startups in Indonesia, such as Gojek, Tokopedia, and Traveloka. Surprisingly, I can graduate with special recognition as a distinction graduate by completing all of the assignments, attended all instructor-led training workshops, and earn cumulative scores in the top 10% out of 2250 graduates.

The story of my struggle doesn't stop there, I still want to keep running! My group's final project called BACARA on Google Bangkit managed to become the top 15 and get funding of US $ 10000. BACARA is a technology product that offers a novel solution, in the form of a mobile app that can interpret sign language using AI, and convert it to text and Audio, so hearing friends no longer face challenges when they want to communicate with deaf/mute friends. BACARA has a vision to make deaf and speech impaired people able to communicate like ordinary people so that they have the same place to be heard by others. This vision is realized by BACARA through the implementation of translator technology in a mobile application that is easy to carry anywhere and can be used anytime so that it can help deaf and speech-impaired people in communicating with people around them using Indonesian Sign language.

I just want to keep running, running, running, and running!

In the end, I am here as one of the first representatives from Indonesia, able to meet and discuss with you the outstanding fellows at University Innovation Fellows.
