Fellow:Cheyne Westerman
Cheyne Westerman is a University Innovation Fellow from the Spring 2015 cohort.
Cheyne Westerman is currently a student at Kettering University in Flint, Michigan. His major is mechanical engineering. However, he is really more passionate about his concentration and minors, rather than his major. He is undertaking a concentration in Innovation & Entrepreneurship, which is geared towards engineering. His dual minors are: 1) Business; 2) Innovation & Entrepreneurship (which is geared towards business). He believes that being a mechanical engineering is so valuable because it is arguably the broadest of engineering degrees and he believes that to work in any position in a company which sells products, one must be able to understand the core ingredient of success: the product itself. His real goal in life is to land an upper management position at a great company or to create his own company with a group of intelligent individuals which brings great value to target customers.
Cheyne is currently the President of Kettering University's Entrpreneur Society for the 2015 calendar year. Additionally, he is a member of the leadership circle for the group, which seeks out tasks to better the campus' innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. An overview of Kettering Entrepreneur Society is the Society meets once a week and "grows" ideas among students. Essentially, anyone is invited to come and voice their ideas and as a group can discuss and give advice to such ideas. There are also opportunities for funding through the group.
Cheyne continues to seek out ways to grow his I&E skill set and seek new opportunities and challenges at his college campus and in the community to which he may apply his skill set.
