Bio

Jeff Chamberlain received his Ph.D. in history at the University of Chicago. He started his career teaching history at the University of St. Francis, a small Catholic university outside of Chicago. There he taught a wide variety of classes, chaired the History and Political Science Department, led nearly a dozen study abroad trips, and started an honors program. The latter led him to focus on honors education, and he moved to Grand Valley State University as Director of the Frederik Meijer Honors College in 2007. While there he built the program from just over 900 students to over 1700; added full-time (tenure/tenure-track) faculty in Honors; developed and expanded the curriculum with interdisciplinary, team-taught, active-learning sequences of courses; and co-taught in a sequence of courses on Social Product Innovation. He learned Design Thinking and became a strong advocate of sustainability. In 2017, he became inaugural dean of the Hicks Honors College at UNF, where he is growing the program, building strong alliances and connections throughout the university, and working on developing an innovative Honors program in Global Sustainable Development.
