Maggie Brown in is a Universtiy University Innovation Fellow at Wichita State Universityfrom the Fall 2018 Cohort. She is working on an undergraduate student degree in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in mathematicsMathematics from Wichita State University. She While she is expected to graduate in December 2021. studying engineering, Maggie first found an interest in using design thinking during her first semester at Wichita State when she took the freshman seminar Introduction to Technology and Innovationhas a passion for education. This course came with During the requirement to use the design thinking processschool year, which was taught in class, to come up with a product. She and her team created a revolutionary doorstop called Lyfelock that was created she works as an extra barrier to be put in place during an emergent hostile situation in a school setting. The team was one of Teaching Assistant for the five teams class AE 512: Experimental Methods in Aerospace Engineering where she facilitates labs that demonstrate how to qualify for the final round of the Koch Innovation Challengeperform wind tunnel tests. In During the endsummer, Lyfelock won she directs camps at the People’s Choice awardCosmosphere, a space museum in Hutchinson, Kansas.
As a UIF on campus, Maggie has been working on a project called Shocker Study Space which would increase student knowledge of facilities on campus that students can use to study. She is planning on doing this by creating a comprehensive list and distributing it to students. She is also involved with Startup Grind U, which was started by Jessica Aldrich, and Innovation Station, which is being run by Christian Ammerman.
Outside Maggie was recently recognized as an Outstanding Undergraduate Student Leader at Wichita State University for her involvement. On top of UIFbeing a University Innovation Fellow, Maggie is she has also been involved with Gamma Phi Betaand Start Up Grind U, The Society of Women where she held many leadership position. In her time at Wichita State University she has also competed, and placed in Space Explorationmany design competitions, including, the Koch Innovation Challenge, and Engineering Ambassadors. Her involvement with Gamma Phi Beta allows her to be involved with sorority's philanthropiesShocker New Venture, Girls on Invent for the Run Planet, and Heartspringthe Airbus Wing Box Challenge. She has also served on many committees. Maggie founded loves sharing information with others and was a featured speaker at the Wichita State Chapter of SWISE 2020 Women in May 2018 STEAM Gala and is currently serving as the chapter's President. The goal of SWISE is to encourage a student presenter for the diveristy of space exploration2019 Midwest Section ASEE Conference.
