Biography - Shalin Jyotishi

Shalin Jyotishi is a Senior Policy Analyst for Education and Labor at the think-tank New America. His mission is to understand, design, and communicate strategies that can help unleash the maximum benefits of quality higher education, decent work, and technological innovation for all.


He was previously the Assistant Director for Economic Development and Community Engagement at the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU), North America’s oldest presidents-led higher education association. He oversees APLU’s signature economic development strategy development program for higher education institutions, the Innovation and Economic Prosperity Universities program and serves as a core researcher in the areas of university workforce development, R&D innovation ecosystem, and public engagement.

He has been invited to speak before government, university, industry, philanthropy, and public audiences, nationally and internationally, at major venues that include the United Nations, the U.S. National Academies, the University Economic Development Association, and the National Academy of Inventors.


Recognized by the World Economic Forum as Global Shaper Impact Officer, Shalin fulfills his mission through a variety of leadership positions. He is a member of the International Economic Development Council’s Higher Education Advisory Committee, the United Nation's Major Group for Children and Youth’s Science-Policy Interface, the U.S. Youth Working Group to the United Nations, and the Foretell Ambassador Board of Georgetown University’s Center for Security and Emerging Technologies.


Shalin served as an editor of the Journal of Economic Development in Higher Education and the Education Policy and Law Review. He previously served on the national advisory boards of APLU’s Commission on Innovation, Competitiveness & Economic Prosperity, and on governance committees of the University Economic Development Association.
