Promoting Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The Center for Entrepreneurship houses the academic core of entrepreneurship and innovation at Ohio University ( [http://www.ohio.edu/entrepreneurship/ http://www.ohio.edu/entrepreneurship/] ). The CfE also supports entrepreneurial student organizations and events, such as Ohio University Entrepreneurs (an organization that brings together students who have started, or plan to start a business, launch an product, or license a technology), the local chapter of Enactus (an organization dedicated to providing practical and sustainable business solutions to social and environmental problems), Think Design (a student advertising agency), Consulting Fellows (an organization dedicated to building soft skills for business), and Epsilon Nu Tau (the entrepreneurship fraternity). The CfE also helps organize events for business plan and idea pitching competitions.

More information and news about programs under the umbrella of the CfE can be found here: [http://bobcat-entrepreneur.com/ http://bobcat-entrepreneur.com/]

Encouraging faculty innovation and entrepreneurship

More on this topic following future interviews with faculty members.

Actively supporting the university technology transfer function

The Technology Transfer Office focuses on protecting the IP of faculty members and finding a market for their technologies.

More information about the TTO can be found here: [http://www.ohio.edu/research/tto/ http://www.ohio.edu/research/tto/]

Facilitating University-Industry Collaboration

The Innovation Center previously ran an accelerator program (which I believe is being restructured at the moment), and acts as an incubation facility for startups built by students, faculty, and local entrepreneurs.

More information about the Innovation Center can be found here: [http://www.ohio.edu/research/innovation/ http://www.ohio.edu/research/innovation/]

Engaging with regional and local economic development efforts

Techgrowth Ohio handles much of the regional economic development efforts. It was started by Ohio University's Voinovich School of Leadership and public affairs after receiving a Third Frontier grant.
