priority 20 for 2025 uif fellows
===Purpose:===
Because Elon is full of driven students, the school has developed a culture of students being overly involved. As a result, students are stretched too thin and struggle to find moments to just breathe. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to bring organizations with similar goals together in order to make the most of events and students' time. By improving communication and forming relationships between different clubs, resources will be used more efficiently and students will find that they can better handle their schedules without having to compromise their passions for being part of a variety of different organizations. We want all students to connect their learning with real-world impact. This means creating more opportunities for students to work with local organizations, understand social issues, and build the skills needed to be active, thoughtful citizens in their communities.

The idea is to have easy conversations surrounding the backgrounds, experiences, turning point, and goals of our beloved faculty members. Elon faculty do a fantastic job of mentoring students but some students are not as willing to reach out for a one on one advising. This program will be designed as a series of ongoing weekly dialogues between a faculty member on a specific theme or question giving the students the opportunity to hear more about how their professors found themselves at Elon or in their area of interest. This program capitalizes on diversity of thought and diversity which is very much present at Elon but lacks a discussion to surround it. This brings the liberal arts education to life outside of the classroom, inspiring students to explore new areas and have a more fluid discussion surrounding inclusion. Students prioritize a campus environment where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and represented. Inclusive excellence means more than diversity in numbers — it means fostering dialogue, supporting underrepresented identities, and ensuring equitable access to opportunities and resources. Students value spaces where they can openly discuss identity, difference, and lived experience while building meaningful connections across backgrounds.

===Purpose: ===
Inform the Elon community as a whole about innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities by allowing students to teach and motivate each other. By doing this, students can feed off each other and create more ideas than they could when learning on their own. Elon students recognize that academic success is closely tied to mental, physical, and emotional health. Students prioritize accessible counseling services, wellness programming, and campus norms that encourage balance rather than constant productivity. Well-being also includes social connection, purpose, and feeling supported during times of stress or transition. Students value proactive, visible, and stigma-free wellness resources.Students can engage in leadership roles across student organizations, academic projects, athletics, service initiatives, and campus employment, where they learn to collaborate, communicate, and make decisions that impact others. Through programs such as student organization leadership roles, peer mentoring, orientation and residence life leadership, and campus governance, students develop skills in facilitation, conflict resolution, and ethical decision-making. Leadership opportunities are available at all levels, allowing students to grow from participants to organizers to mentors over time. Elon also emphasizes values-based and inclusive leadership. Workshops, retreats, and training programs help students reflect on their leadership styles, understand power and identity, and lead with empathy and integrity. These experiences encourage students to see leadership as shared, adaptive, and rooted in service to their communities. In addition, Elon supports leadership development through innovation and experiential learning. Students are encouraged to lead interdisciplinary projects, participate in innovation challenges, conduct research, and collaborate with community partners to address complex problems. These experiences help students build confidence, resilience, and the ability to lead in uncertain and rapidly changing environments.
===Purpose: ===
To connect students to peers throughout the country, both through Unniversity University Innovation Fellows and through study abroad. By doing so, students better understand the world around them, even if they do not have the opportunity to leave the country they reside in. Additionally, this will better build students to be global citizens and informed leaders. Elon’s residential model plays a major role in shaping student life. Students value living and learning environments that foster connection, community, and belonging. This includes intentional residential programming, shared traditions, and inclusive social spaces where students can build relationships. A vibrant campus experience helps students feel grounded, engaged, and connected to the broader Elon community.

While Elon has many resources for student outreach through our student professional development center, students often struggle to forge individual connections. Our purpose here is to help students get involved with it. In doing sostudents can build sturdy relationships that can prove helpful for years to come. lon’s alumni network is a powerful resource that supports students during their time on campus and beyond. Students benefit from access to engaged alumni who are eager to share career advice, industry insights, and real-world perspectives. Through networking events, alumni panels, mentorship programs, and one-on-one connections, students gain exposure to diverse career paths and professional experiences. Alumni support plays a key role in career exploration and preparation. Alumni frequently participate in classroom visits, speaker series, career treks, and professional development workshops, helping students understand how their academic experiences translate into life after Elon. These interactions allow students to ask honest questions, build confidence, and make informed decisions about internships, jobs, and graduate school. Elon also fosters long-term alumni-student relationships through structured mentoring and informal networking opportunities. Alumni serve as mentors, employers, collaborators, and advocates for current students, strengthening the sense of community that extends well beyond graduation. Students value alumni who remain invested in Elon’s culture of mentorship, experiential learning, and leadership development. Through alumni engagement, students are able to build meaningful professional relationships while staying connected to Elon’s values of collaboration, service, and lifelong learning. This ongoing support helps students transition successfully from campus to career and reinforces a strong, lasting Elon network.

=
=Priority 20: Improving mental health resources for students on campus (2025) = At Elon University, student mental health is a foundational part of student success, belonging, and well-being. Students are navigating increasing academic pressure, social stress, and uncertainty about the future, making accessible and proactive mental health support more important than ever. Our priority is to create a campus culture where mental health resources are visible, approachable, and integrated into daily student life — not something students only seek out in crisis. Our goal is to '''reduce barriers to mental health support''' by meeting students where they are — physically, emotionally, and socially. We aim to normalize conversations around mental health, increase early access to care, and create supportive environments that encourage connection, prevention, and ongoing well-being. Ultimately, we hope to build a campus where students feel supported before they reach a breaking point. [[Category:Elon_University]]
=== '''Accessible Mental Health Spaces''' ===
Students benefit from mental health resources that feel welcoming and easy to access. A dedicated mental health building would serve as a centralized, visible space for counseling, wellness programming, peer support, and quiet reflection. This space would signal Elon’s long-term commitment to student well-being and provide a hub for integrated mental health services across campus.

'''What we are doing to establish this:'''

* Advocating for dedicated wellness spaces through student feedback and campus conversations
* Highlighting the need for centralized, stigma-free mental health environments
* Exploring how existing wellness services could be unified within one accessible location

=== '''Pop-Up Counseling in Mosley''' ===
Pop-up counseling offers students low-pressure, informal access to mental health support in spaces they already frequent. Hosting pop-up counseling sessions in Mosley Center increases visibility, reduces intimidation, and encourages students to seek help earlier. These sessions can include brief check-ins, resource navigation, and stress-management support rather than formal therapy appointments.

'''What we are doing to establish this:'''

* Identifying high-traffic, student-friendly locations for pop-up counseling
* Collaborating with counseling staff and campus partners to pilot short sessions
* Framing pop-ups as supportive conversations rather than clinical appointments
