Tomo is a University Innovation Fellow currently studying Anthropology, Political Science and Business at Sophia University in Tokyo. Tomo enjoyed an interdisciplinary and multicultural upbringing by growing up in Japan, Germany, and Scotland. He enjoys learning about his native Japanese culture, modern innovation, mental health and what defines creativity. While also a Fellow at the Stanford d.schoolTomo's diverse interests span Japanese culture, innovation, marine science, mental health, and creativity, Tomo is educated in seamlessly blending them to inspire his design thinking at the [https://hpiapproach.de/en/schoolHe has co-founded multiple organizations, initiated projects addressing gender and environmental challenges, and successfully led teams of over 30 individuals. As a Fellow and as an alumnus and coach of-design-thinking the HPI School of Design Thinking], a leading design thinking institution globally. Tomo's experiences with Horizon and UIF have inspired him to pursue new projects focused on leadership education. The project’s mission is to inspire youth and instill in them design teams around the confidence to pursue their passions and enact change in their communitiesglobe.
In the future 2021, Tomo can see himself designing empowering learning experienceslaunched RISE, a pioneering project that delivered self-empowerment and leadership workshops in a roadtrip format to over 250 middle and high school students across Japan. He now operates his own consulting business, specializing in strategy and design for clients in industries such as developing new school subjects for K-12 students that encourage them to think about the connections between digital technologymobility, sustainabilitymanufacturing, marine science and entrepreneurshipeducation. Currently, Tomo serves as Experience Design Lead at AstraZeneca Japan, where he spearheads patient-centricity in healthcare innovation.
