Thalía is a Bioengineering Junior at UTEC and is originally from a town in Piura, Perú. Since she was 13, she has accessed scholarships and programs to study outside her hometown and has managed to be an outstanding student in her school and university. All the opportunities she was granted so far have led her to share her knowledge with the people of her hometown, especially with those less fortunate. For that reason, she works to empower women and girls from her birthplace.
Moreover, she is a volunteer for social programs that follow the same objective as her, such as Q’omer Kallpa, Asiry, Girl Up and recently she has founded Colaneñas. At her university, Thalía is part of two research projects related to two topics she loves: Synthetic biology and Tissue engineering that seek to improve the health of others. On the other hand, she is the vicepresident of BioUTEC, a biohacker space whose purpose is to democratize biotechnology inside and outside UTEC.
Thalía considers herself as a caring, creative, and responsible person. In her spare time, she enjoys painting with watercolors, create new strategies to reach more people interested in Biotechnology through BioUTEC and recently, she has found in Yoga a new way to manage her stress during these difficult times.
