Overview

Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (UDINUS) is a university that supports all innovation and entrepreneurship within its campus residents. One of the innovations that Udinus has made is the creation of a digital gamelan called e-gamelan. E-gamelan aims to preserve the original Indonesian gamelan where everyone can play gamelan through their Android smartphones, iPhones, and even tablets. The entrepreneurship of the Udinus campus is also emphasized so that Udinus received the Entrepreneurial Campus Award 2021 in the silver category for academic campuses. Examples of UDINUS entrepreneurship products are Madhang and Yourfit Polarism. Madhang is a culinary application that embraces culinary SMEs throughout Indonesia. Yourfit Polarism is a marketplace to connect customers with tailors without having to meet face to face.

Promoting student innovation and entrepreneurship

Universitas Dian Nuswantoro promotes many opportunities for students to discover and develop innovation & entrepreneurship. For example, is through classes that encourage innovation through projects. These classes include technopreneurship, which is classes that teach a student how to combine technology with entrepreneurship. In these classes, students must create a prototype of a startup that will be helped in our community. The best prototype startup will be helped by the campus to be implemented to become the real startup. However, in the business department, Universitas Dian Nuswantoro offers a variety of entrepreneurship and startup focus classes that attempt to be as close to a real business setting as possible. In accounting, class students have to create hypothetical campground businesses and present financial projections. And also, there are multiple marketing and entrepreneurship classes that are given for students to raise an opportunity to work on a real business project for a real company. In the Informatics Engineering class offered at the campus, students learn how to make an application that can be useful in our community, it can be a website application, mobile application, or maybe a game application. All around the business and computer science department Universitas Dian Nuswantoro have the ability to promote innovation and entrepreneurship through their community and also a connection with other company.

Another facility that is given for the student to promote innovation and entrepreneurship is Artificial Intelligence Lab. this lab has a computer with a good specification suitable for a student that wants to train machine learning models, develop mobile applications and game applications. and at this lab is equipped with a VR headset suitable for students that want to develop or researching VR games. In this lab, students can free to use this computer and other equipment to implement their idea and innovation.

Encouraging faculty innovation and entrepreneurship

Dian Nuswantoro University (UDINUS) encourages its students to continue to innovate and pursue entrepreneurship by forming an operational technical implementing element known as UPT Kewirausahaan which aims to establish and run programs that can help students in innovating and entrepreneuring. There are several Innovation and Entrepreneurship programs carried out by UPT Kewirausahaan :

  • Designing courses such as Basic Entrepreneurship, Business Startup, and Advanced Entrepreneurship, which teaches students the basics of entrepreneurship.
  • Forming a student/extracurricular association called HIPMI PT which functioning as a forum for students to exchange information and channel their innovative ideas.
  • Establishing Creanovatif and Tenda Usaha programs that are carried out regularly which functions as a place for students to implement their ideas into the real world.

Apart from UPT Kewirausahaan, Innovation and Entrepreneurship are also supported through the establishment of a research center that functions as a central for digital innovation. The following are the research centers at UDINUS :

Actively supporting the university technology transfer function

In 2017, UDINUS (Universitas Dian Nuswantoro) was the only campus that collaborated with Mitsubishi. Since the signing of the MOU between UDINUS and PT Setsuya Astec (a subsidiary of Mitsubishi engaged in factory automation) and PT Millennium Energy Firman (official distributor of Mitsubishi Electric Indonesia in Semarang), the symbiosis of mutualism has been proven by the inauguration of the Mitsubishi Training Center. In signing the extension of the MoU, it was reduced to a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) containing follow-up points of cooperation. Among them are not only supporting hardware needs but also software, contributing by being a resource person at seminars held at UDINUS, to providing internship opportunities or joining Mitsubishi for UDINUS students/graduates. Mitsubishi has provided a Programmable Logic Controller for factory automation to UDINUS as a form of cooperation. Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) training program is an electronic circuit that can perform various control functions at complex levels. PLCs can be programmed, controlled and operated by operators who are not experienced in operating computers. Today almost all factory automation uses PLC. For this reason, the equipment that has been supported by Mitsubishi will be used as a means of direct practical learning so that when students are released into the industrial world they are ready to be equipped from campus with complete practical equipment.

Facilitating University-Industry Collaboration

Our campus has a course program that requires students to be able to adapt to the world of work and industry. The subjects are Industrial Work Lectures, Practical Work, and there are several collaborative programs with the government called the MBKM program. The Industrial Work Course itself is usually taken by students with a minimum time allocation of 4 months and a maximum of 6 months doing an internship program at a company. Not only internships in companies, but also can work on projects given by lecturers at Dian Nuswantoro University. There are usually 2 types of practical work, namely pre-job training with an allocation of approximately one month and practical work with a maximum time allocation of 3 months. The same is the case with Industrial Work Lectures, Practical Work is also taken in a company. Meanwhile, the program that collaborates with the government is the MBKM program. So far, it is divided into 2, namely an internship program and an independent study program. Where this program can be converted to courses on campus. All three programs must produce impactful outputs for the company as well as for the university. Where at the end of the period a trial will be held or report the results of his work during the program.

Engaging with regional and local economic development efforts

The effort from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro to engage with regional and local economic development efforts is in the form of event PHP2D (Program Holistik Pembinaan dan Pemberdayaan) . The purpose of event PHP2D is to help solve a problem in a remote area. Sometimes the problem is very varied, like carry out the construction of a clean water project as a water reservoir for the village that lacks clean water using technology filtering that integrated to the source of water in that village. In this program students must solve a problem on someplace that really need help using their specialties, if you have specialties in computer, you can build an application that will help on their communities. On this program, not just student that takes an action, the lecturer also take apart on the project to help a student solve the problem.
