Resource talk:How to create a student prototyping fund

This was great! I'm very fortunate to attend the Univerity of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where they make these resources really visible and accessible. One question that I have (that doesn't pertain to funding), is what advice may you recommend to students seeking legal advice for their prototype (patents, trademarks, etc..)?

Great idea especially for student entrepreneurs

Some of my classmates and I from the occupational therapy program at IONA actually participated in the idea challenge back in the spring. We invented a product that could help the elderly called the Pocketarm which provided accessibility and helped maintain independence. However, our biggest hurdle during the competition was to describe our product well enough for the public to understand. SInce we did not have a student prototyping fund in our school at least for non-business/entrepreneurial students; it was too expensive to create a prototype and instead we used play-dough to help visualize our product. I feel that had we been able to produce an actual product, we would have succeeded better in the competition. Regardless, it would be a great initiative in schools to help them get comfortable exploring new materials where the burden of cost to produce is not there.
