Inspiring Design Thinking

Although the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship at MSU has come a long way in the last few years, there’s still a lot of room to grow. Many students, especially underclassmen, do not even have innovation and entrepreneurship on their radar, This unfortunate truth presents an opportunity to provide students with accessible and exciting opportunities to learn about innovation and entrepreneurship early on.

Encouraging the Pursuit of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Students are currently becoming more and more interested by the process of entrepreneurship yet aren’t encouraged to follow the this route in major degrees here at Michigan State University. It is important that the campus culture encourages students to pursue their entrepreneurial goals as well as inspire capable and innovative students to follow the route of entrepreneurship throughout their studies and following graduation.

Providing Tools for Realizing Entrepreneurial Goals

Once students at Michigan State decide they have a desire to pursue their innovation and entrepreneurship goals, then they can begin to utilize the resources provided at MSU. A large part of the resources provided here are sustainable but may leave students unable to determine how to use this skill for their major. It is important that students leave the university with the tools necessary to maintain their innovation and entrepreneurship independently and successfully to use in their future careers.

Our Strategy

Before we provide more opportunities for students to get involved with innovation and entrepreneurship, we must first address the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship at MSU. In order to do this, we have decided to hold a monthly innovation and entrepreneurship workshop. This workshop will be lead by students for students. In this workshop, students will be introduced to design thinking processes in parallel with business model processes. Our goal is not to make every student at MSU a user experience designer or business owner, but to teach students these mindsets in hopes that it will make them better at whatever it is they are pursuing.
