Project Name: Teaching and Learning after COVID: Future Proofing the College Campus
Project by Faculty Innovation Fellows Candidate John Bannister
Why is this project important to you, your department, & your Fellows?
As my institution works to integrate what we learned about teaching and learning enterprises during COVID, we have struggled with finding the right balance of strategies to develop students and faculty. I believe that this journey will provide insights for many stakeholders
Description
My project will explore and implement design thinking principles as part of a transformative approach to enhance the effectiveness of faculty development and teaching and learning at Johnson C. Smith University. As HBCUs with limited resources, we must be strategic in our approach to innovation. Through the support of the fellowship, I will be able to identify strategies that will be both cost effective and meaningful. During this project we will explore faculty attitudes towards design thinking, professional development, and cross-discipline collaboration. We will also look to develop our current makerspace offering in partnership with the University Library to support the development of learning scenarios and assignments. Our ultimate goal is to define and develop tools and strategies that best fit into the universities strategic plan while developing buying across the institutions.
