Fellow:Jonathan Pan
Jonathan Pan is a University Innovation Fellow at the University of Chicago. He is a senior majoring in Biological Sciences and minoring in Philosophy. He is passionate about problem solving, continuous learning, and creating a big impact in the world. His interest in biology and confidence in his scientific capability were solidified after placing in the top 20 out of 10,000 contestants in the USA Biology Olympiad. This experience led him to pursue biology research in Dr. Kenan Onel’s lab for the past 3 years, researching a novel mechanism for medulloblastoma, the most common malignant brain tumor. He is specifically by investigating the function of familial candidate variants identified through whole exome sequencing. While working in the Onel lab, Jonathan was awarded the Biological Sciences Collegiate Division Fellowship.
In addition to his time in the lab, Jonathan is also a patient advocate with Health Leads, a nationwide non-profit organization, working specifically at the South Chicago Family Health Center Office. As a patient advocate, he has connected over 100 English and Spanish-speaking low-income patients to basic resources that impact their health such as food, insurance, and utilities. As a student leader, Jonathan co-founded Health of the Mind, a student-run organization that seeks to raise mental health awareness on campus. In addition, Jonathan has also served as Publicity Chair of Phoenix Biology, the undergraduate biology interest group, and as a small group leader for Asian-American Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. After college, Jonathan will be working at A.T. Kearney, a leading, global management consulting firm and plans on attending either medical school or business school later on.
