Bio

This marks my 24th year as a STEM educator; my primary focus has been in Physical, Chemical and Life Science. My teaching experience has ranged from Middle, Secondary and Higher Education. I am currently a full time Science Instructor at Lawson State Community College, an HBCU in Birmingham, Alabama. I am a Doctoral Student at Tennessee State University focusing on Educational Leadership in Higher Education.

I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Alabama A & M University, a Master’s Degree in Biology Education from Alabama State University and an Educational Leadership Certification from Samford University. Additional certification includes the following: E-Learning Certified Instructor, AMSTI (Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative) Certified, Advanced Placement Certified in Biology, ACCESS Distant Learning Certified, National Board-Certified Teacher in Adolescence and Young Adulthood Science and a National Trainer for Education Research and Dissemination Certification (TEACH).

Honors and Affiliations include the following: M.E.R.I.T Mentor (Mentored Experiences in Research Instruction and Teaching; Society for the Advancement of Biology Education Research (SABER)-member; National Science Standards Advisory Committee (Washington, DC); Sixth Congressional District Education Advisory Committee; Speaker Education and Labor Committee (sub-committee on Healthy Families and Communities (Washington, DC); Presenter for QUEST (Quality Educational Standards in Teaching); Presenter-American Federation of Teachers, National Advisory Board (Washington, DC); Presenter- ACTE (Alabama Career Technical Education) and a active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Inc.

I am a native of Birmingham, Alabama and the mother to two amazing sons. I am the owner/CEO of Tutor Nation-Tutoring Solutions, Inc. This is a web-based business that provides academic support to students in grades K-12 using a virtual platform. Outside of spending time with my family, I enjoy reading, yoga (exercise), traveling, gardening and making jewelry. My motto in life is to dream big and do everything that my ancestors could not.
