Fellow:Stephanie Mertz
Stephanie is a sophomore studying Systems Engineering and Computer Science at Washington University in St. Louis. Stephanie grew up in New York with a strong love of mathematics. Her desire to learn was contrasted with a healthy dose of boredom and frustration with how it was taught to her in school. This spurred her to seek out alternate education sources and inspire other young children bored with the education system. She is currently working on an online platform to provide exploratory classes to middle school aged students.
After an exhilarating time working in a pathology lab on viral protein structures, she will be beginning a part time job in consulting technology companies. She aims to gain a better idea of how tech companies operate when they are past the start-up phase. On campus, she gets a temporary break from the STEM fields with a leadership position in student government and college democrats. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her sorority sisters, friends, and invaluable mentors.
