Bio

Sarah Jane Hughes is a dynamic electronic and computer engineering student at the University of Galway, inspired by her mother’s entrepreneurial journey in the medical device sportswear industry. Recognizing the value of technical expertise in leadership, she pursued engineering to equip herself with the skills necessary for innovation and business.

Currently, Sarah Jane is developing a custom app at Brady Hughes Consulting to improve operational efficiency. Her accomplishments include leading her basketball team as captain for six years, earning multiple MVP awards, and excelling academically as the Economics Student of the Year in 2023. She has also been honored with the President's Prize for Innovation and Entrepreneurship through the CreateHER Program.

Sarah Jane’s commitment to social justice is evident in her research on gender inequality, which earned her a spot in the elite Dáil Éireann program. Beyond academics and professional achievements, she enjoys playing guitar, basketball, and golf, and is fluent in Irish and proficient in German. Sarah Jane is dedicated to leveraging her skills and experiences to make a meaningful impact on the world.

Achievements

Deputy Head Girl (2023): Demonstrated leadership and organisational skills, contributing to school-wide initiatives and representing the student body.

Basketball Captain (2018 - 2024): Led the team with dedication, earning the titles of MVP in 2021 and Coaches Player of the Year in 2022 for outstanding performance and leadership.

Economics Student of the Year (2023): Recognised for exceptional performance in economics, highlighting analytical and critical thinking skills.

Top 6.8% in Leaving Cert Results (2023): Achieved one of the highest results in the Leaving Certificate exams, reflecting academic excellence.

Dáil Éireann (April 2021): Selected for an elite two-week program, recognised for in-depth research on gender inequality in politics, one of only 60 students chosen across Ireland.

CreateHER Program (January - April 2023): Honoured with the President's Prize for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, further developing leadership and innovation skills through this program.

Freelance Social Media Management (2021 - 2023): Managed social media strategies for various clients, significantly increasing engagement and reach.
