Rahsaan Smith is a highly motivated and dedicated individual who is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology at Morehouse College. As a first-generation college student, Mr. Smith is deeply passionate about mental health and is committed to learning high-income skills that will enable him to make a positive impact in his community. He is continuously seeking new opportunities to expand his knowledge, skills, and network.
Driven by the socioeconomic discrepancies he observed in Oakland and across the nation, he is determined to advocate for systemic changes that uplift marginalized communities.He actively uses his voice and pen to illuminate societal inequalities, hoping to bring about awareness and reform. God, family, and loyalty are his core values and he lives by the quote blood makes you related, but loyalty makes you family.
Mr. Smith has gained valuable work and volunteer experience through his involvement in various organizations. He has provided security services for Google and has also worked with Kingmakers of Oakland, the Social Justice Academy, Highlander Research and Education Center, and the Morehouse Innovation & Entrepreneur Center.
At Kingmakers of Oakland, Mr. Smith was part of a team that developed a plan to introduce an elective class in the Oakland Unified School District aimed at empowering young Black men by educating them on their history and identity. The class, called African American Male Achievement, was designed to create a student leadership council consisting of the top students from each school. The council would then travel to different states to present their curriculum to school board members with the aim of implementing it in their district.
Mr. Smith also gained experience in fundraising and event coordination while working with the Social Justice Academy at San Leandro High School. The academy's annual event, One Love One Mic, was designed to showcase the talents of students in the community with a focus on social justice and the upliftment of marginalized communities. Mr. Smith was an emcee for the event, which helped him develop his confidence in public speaking.
Moreover, Mr. Smith completed a twelve-week consulting internship with the Morehouse Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center. During this internship, he worked with V-Tech Solutions, where he developed numerous skills that were beneficial to his personal and professional growth. Mr. Smith was part of a cohort tasked with assisting businesses to solve company issues, and they had to present a plan to the CEO in teams. This experience provided him with valuable knowledge of problem-solving and pitching.
In conclusion, Rahsaan Smith is a driven and accomplished individual who has demonstrated a commitment to making a positive impact in his community. Through his work and volunteer experience, he has gained valuable skills and knowledge that will enable him to pursue his goals and aspirations in the field of mental health and beyond.
