Bio
สวัสดีค่ะ (Thai language) 初めまして (Japanese language) Hello! This is Poonyaporn Suthamporn, you can call me Poonya. Although born and raised mainly in Thailand, I moved to UWC ISAK Japan (United World College) in Karuizawa, Japan in 2017 and completed three years of high school in a diverse and inspiring community that fundamentally changed my life for the better. After receiving a full-ride scholarship from my high school to continue my studies in Japan in the year 2020, I then entered the Sophia's Program for Sustainable Futures (SPSF), the Faculty of Human Sciences, Department of Sociology at Sophia University, Japan and am soon becoming a junior year student.
My interest lies in facilitating social development and creating positive change through utilizing design-thinking, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Thus, linking to my previous internship experiences as a Product Marketing intern at a sustainable food outlet start-up that aims to help tackle Thailand’s food waste dilemma, EDSY start-up that aims to democratize International School-like English Language education in Thailand and to my current internship experience at Thailand Development Research Institute Foundation in the Department of Modern Agriculture and Water Management.
Thus, although having some prior experiences in competitions like Hult Prize, SDGs Game Fest, etc., I am especially excited to become part of the University Innovation Fellow Program 2022 where I can truly delve deep into topics of design, innovation, and entrepreneurship for positive change via new methods of learning and amidst a new educational community!
Achievements
bold text[Winning SDGs Game Fest Thailand Competition] The global waste problem is an issue I am passionate about and am actively tackling. Poorly managed waste is impacting the world on various scales, it is one of the major causes of environmental degradation, natural disasters, water, soil, and air pollution, which essentially is a threat to human health and well-being. To tackle this issue, I believe in the importance of educating people on the significance of waste management. With this, I and my team entered and won the SDGs Game Fest, Thailand’s first-ever game design contest aimed at raising awareness amongst the youth and the public of the Sustainable Development Goals with our game “The Collectors” (originally called "Trashed"). It is an entertaining yet informative multiplayer game that simulates the consequences of the waste problem and educates players on waste separation and recycling methods. Our game helps raise awareness of SDGs goals 3, 6, 12, 13, 14, and 17. Currently, it is being developed to launch at Thailand’s Gameshow in October 2022.
