Bio

Crysten Simien, a second-year student at Xavier University of Louisiana, double-majors in Elementary Education & Psychological Sciences. Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Crysten has used her passion to teach others locally through Bible classes, mentoring Black girls, and student teaching in various learning environments. She plans to use the education gained from Xavier University of Louisiana to pursue her dream career as an educator, and most importantly become an inspiration to all that she comes across. On Xavier's campus, Crysten became a chartered member of NCNW, National Council of Negro Women, Inc. in March 2023 in which she plans to use this platform to increase opportunities for African-American women on Xavier's campus and in the New Orleans community. In her local Lake Charles community, she served as a student assistant in a reading intervention program focused on increasing the reading fluency of third-graders, with the effort to provide students with extra opportunities to rise above their current achievement level.

As a past member of Top Teens of America Inc., Crysten served as Second Vice-President, fulfilling the role where she communicated with other teens for vital feedback, created innovative ideas to engage the Lake Charles chapter, and assisted in facilitating meetings. Crysten also served as the Secretary of the Southwest Region of the Louisiana Missionary Baptist State Convention (LMBSC). As Secretary of the LMBSC, Crysten recorded the events of meetings, helped develop activities for the region's youth, and participated in joint meetings with the Southeast region by collaborating on plans for the youth. In both of these organizations, Crysten brought fresh ideas to the table, valuing the feedback of the members, in an effort to meet and satisfy the needs of every party involved.

She is a dedicated professional with demonstrated strengths in customer service, time management, and record keeping. Crysten has strengths in troubleshooting problems and building successful solutions. Her skills include but are not limited to excellent verbal and written communication with solid background motivated to cultivate positive relationships and exceed goals.
