Annisha Borah is a second-year student majoring in biomedical engineering at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is passionate about sustainability issues, most specifically, the reduction of waste. As Sustainability Coordinator of the student government, Annisha is conducting a waste audit at the campus dining hall to gather data in support of a composting program. Annisha serves the university as a UAB Ambassador, an executive cabinet member in the student government, a tutor at the university success center, and a student researcher at a lab studying the practical applications of cardiovascular stem cells. Annisha is interested in the circular design model and creating innovative ways to use waste produced at one level of manufacturing to fuel another industry. In high school, Annisha applied for and won a national grant to implement a four-week summer enrichment program for students in the first through fourth grades from low-income families. Annisha is passionate about equal access to educational opportunities and resources, and she continues to work to create stronger visibility of resources on campus.
