Overview:

Gogte Institute of Technology, the flagship Institute of Karnatak Law Society, Belagavi was incepted in 1979 and it is included under the section 2(f) and 12(b) of UGC act 1956, permanent affiliate and an Autonomous Institution under Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi. Spread across a sprawling mango meadow of over 23 Acres, GIT, houses 07 under graduate and 09 post graduate disciplines including MBA and MCA programs. GIT has the honour of sheltering over 4500 students and more than 250 highly qualified and motivated work force. Institute is also carries the distinction of getting NBA Accreditation by AICTE for the third time in succession, 2004, 2008 and 2015. In the recent visit of NBA, five of its programmes viz. Civil Engg., Mechanical Engg., Electrical & Electronics Engg., Electronics & Communication Engg. and Computer Science & Engg. conferred with accreditation status. A degree from the accredited programme has global acceptability and assurance about the quality of education. Institute is accredited with grade A+ by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Research and innovation has been key strength of GIT. A band of research scholars pursue for Ph.D. and M.Sc. (Engineering) by Research through approved research centers in all the streams including Management studies.

Excellent infrastructure in areas like Flexible Manufacturing System with CNC Machines and ROBOTICS, CAD/CAM, Digital Signal Processing, High Voltage Engineering, VLSI etc. catered by a full-fledged 10/100 Mbps internet with OFC backbone and 150 Mbps Internet Connectivity. 1300+ Computers in the Campus make GIT as one of the best destinations for Technology. The institute has received funds of more than a one crore from various agencies such as AICTE, UGC, VTU, VGST for modernization of the laboratory facilities and for research work. The institute has a very strong Industry-Institute Partnership Cell. The Institute’s library is another attraction with 24000+ titles and 93000+ volumes, 8000+ Journals (including E-Journals) and 16000+ E-books. GIT provides materialistic and financial assistance for all sports and games. Outstanding sports talent is honored and rewarded at the annual sports day. Sports equipments of higher standard and quality sports gears are provided generously in GIT. Strong Alumni base of 15000+ students with many international chapters and many successful names across the globe.

PROMOTING STUDENT INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP The elements of innovation and entrepreneurship have been quite visible on campus by the students. Apart from the subjects that have been inducted in the curriculum, there have been courses like Design Thinking and Innovation, Management and entrepreneurship and B. Honors that are harnessing innovation and entrepreneurship amongst the students. There has been a consistent support from the college towards the students by providing platforms like annual technical fests like “Avalanche”, where students get exposure to implement innovation with design thinking and entrepreneurship, through paper presentations, business models and their entities. There are a few clubs like the Programmers Club ,Developer Student Club. which promote innovative thinking among students. Hackathons organised by the New Age Incubation Network (NAIN) help to identify potential student projects that can be funded by the Government of Karnataka. Also, students are sponsored by highly reputed government organisations like KCTU under Technical Business Incubation(TBI) in the direction to promote entrepreneurship. We have the Industry-Institute Partnership Cell which has facilities like Flexible Manufacturing System, Rapid Prototyping Machine, Coordinate Manufacturing Machine and Surface Roughness Machine, which can be used by students who have undertaken some projects, and also by the industry to train new recruits from the college. The NAIN Incubation Centre has all the facilities conducive to start start-ups by students. The teams  like SAE,CSI,ASME,IEEE,DST-TI,AIACE,IEI,NASA,ISHRAE,FPSI,ACE make the students think laterally and incubate their ideas and come up with their own business and technical models. The Mechanical Department has a tie-up with AEQUS  to provide CAD/CAM training to students. In addition to this, there is the Tata Technologies Ready Engineer program. Start ups in the IT Incubation centre also provide internships to students.

ENCOURAGING FACULTY INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP Entrepreneurship by faculty has become a recent trend on campus.Our faculty members have shown keen interest to develop an interest of innovation and entrepreneurship among students. Few of our faculty members have started their start-ups in the IT incubation centre of our college. This has provided equal opportunity to faculty and students to groom their innovation and entrepreneurship skills and utilise it for their benefit.The college management has also been supportive and has accepted to patent the projects, post screening. The projects would be patented on the basis of service, research or working device. This has been a good move to encourage entrepreneurship activities on campus .

FACILITATING UNIVERSITY - INDUSTRY COLLABORATION Every department in the college has a Board of Studies, which consists not only of senior professors of the department, but also experts from the industry. Industrial experts from recognised MNCs and resource persons from nationalised institutions form the crux of the council. We have also collaborated with a start up in the city by Sandbox Start ups at our sister institution KLS IMER. The IT Incubation Center in our college itself provides start-ups with an address and takes no fees for the first six months. Startup India, an initiative by the Government of India, provides 75% of patent filing fee and 100% of company registration fees. Several industries have collaborated with the college and provide courses which can be taken up as honors courses.

ENGAGING WITH REGIONAL AND LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS Start-ups from around the city recruit students from the college full-time or as interns. The college is involved in socio-economic causes through the LEAD and Rotaract clubs, in which students are deeply involved in social innovation. The college is also involved in many Government initiated socio technical activities and has contributed intellectually for the cause. Apart from this the students also take up technical assignments at various organisations of the region. Students are also a part of SHAURYA club, which promotes and supports students who are aspiring to join the Indian Armed forces.
