Emma May is a freshman studying Computer Science at the Colorado School of Mines. She discovered her passion for programming her junior year of high school, after being pressured into a computer science class by the teacher, who was looking to get more women involved in the program. It turned out to be the best peer pressure she could have given into. When not staring into a computer screen, desperately trying to find bugs in her code, Emma stays very active. She enjoys exploring the outdoors by foot, kayak, or canoe. And while it doesn't boost her GPA, she runs for about eight credit hours a week. Outside of that, Emma works with Discovering Technoloyg, a program dedicated to encouraging elementary and middle school girls to pursue their interest in STEM fields. Emma is incredibly excited for the opportunity to be a University Innovation Fellow. She has traveled to multiple third world countries, and has seen a heart-breaking lack of education around the world. She hopes to gain a "toolbox for change" through UIF in order to make a difference around the world.
