However, students and faculty members may not pay attention to this platform , which may not be able to enrich the I&E ecosystem in the university. A 5-year campaign can be launched to improve the I&E ecosystem, including promotion and students student activities. Promotion The promotion has to be made to raise people 's awareness on of I&E in at Lingnan University, as well as enhancing enhance students' creativity and ideas for starting their own business businesses by organising organizing different activities.
<br ==Promotion and Student Activities 2025/>26== === '''1. Student-Oriented Newsletter''' ==='''What we learned:''' Many students are unaware of the opportunities, facilities, and resources available on campus. This lack of information often results in the perception that the university does not provide enough support for academic or career development. Students may not know about workshops, overseas programs, unique courses, or professors’ office hours, even though these can significantly enrich their university experience. We also learned that students value hearing real experiences from their peers, which helps them understand how to take initiative and make use of available opportunities. '''The project:''' A student-focused newsletter that highlights campus workshops, special programs, overseas internships, interesting courses, professors' office hours, and real student experiences. Unlike existing newsletters, this one targets the student body specifically and prioritizes accessibility, relatability, and actionable steps. '''Key tactics:''' * Collect information weekly from different campus units and student groups.* Feature “student stories” describing how peers accessed unique opportunities.* Include short interviews with professors on topics students care about.* Run a pilot version to test length, tone, and usefulness.* Gather continuous feedback to improve relevance and expand content. === '''2. Critical Thinking Workshops (“Cafe Contradiction”)''' ==='''What we learned:''' Students often hesitate to engage in critical discussions during lessons. Many feel uncertain, shy, or afraid of giving the “wrong” answer. We also learned that students are interested in activities that allow them to challenge ideas in a casual, low-pressure environment, especially if it feels playful or philosophical. '''The project:''' A series of critical thinking workshops called “cafe contradiction,” where students play the devil’s advocate on tricky philosophical or social questions. This helps them practice argumentation, detach from personal opinions, and develop a stronger liberal arts mindset. '''Key tactics:''' * Use results from a 50-student survey to identify popular topics.* Train student facilitators to manage discussion respectfully and productively.* Hold workshops in relaxed settings to reduce pressure.* Start with a small pilot series and collect reflections after each session.* Expand into themed discussions depending on student interest. === '''3. “Useless club”''' ==='''What we learned:''' Students desire more creative and interdisciplinary activities that reflect the spirit of a liberal arts education. Many feel that campus life focuses too heavily on academics and lacks casual artistic expression spaces. Creative activities also help students build friendships across majors. '''The project:''' An artistic and interdisciplinary club that hosts drama, poetry readings, reading circles, music hours, and other creative sessions. The goal is to cultivate a stronger liberal arts atmosphere. '''Key tactics:''' * Survey students to identify preferred artistic formats.* Collaborate with arts-related groups and humanities departments.* Rotate event styles each month to keep participation fresh.* Launch a “useless week” pilot to test interest.* Expand into interdisciplinary showcase events based on feedback. === '''4. Crazy PPT''' ==='''What we learned:''' Students often practice presentation skills only in formal class settings, which makes them nervous and limits creativity. We learned that students enjoy sharing humorous or unconventional ideas when given a safe and informal space. '''The project:''' A recurring event where students create and present unconventional “crazy PPTs” on an unpopular opinion and explain why it matters. This strengthens presentation skills, creativity, and student bonding. '''Key tactics:''' * Provide simple guidelines and a PPT template for beginners.* Use short time limits to keep the event fun and fast-paced.* Include friendly voting categories to encourage participation.* Organize a pilot event to identify the best format.* Use participant feedback to develop themed editions. === '''5. Kings & Angels''' ==='''What we learned:''' Students often remain within their cultural or social groups, making it difficult to meet peers from different backgrounds. Many wish for opportunities to expand their social interactions but don't know how to start. '''The project:''' A cross-background friendship activity similar to a “secret santa,” where students are paired anonymously and perform small supportive acts for one another before a final reveal. '''Key tactics:''' * Create an opt-in system with preferences and comfort levels.* Design simple guidelines for respectful and inclusive participation.* Keep actions low-cost and focused on encouragement.* Run a small pilot round to test the flow and adjust.* Conduct a reveal event and gather reflections for improvement. === '''6. Out App''' ==='''What we learned:''' Students want to meet others for shared activities—coffee, hiking, studying—but feel awkward initiating or don’t know where to find like-minded peers. A convenient, low-pressure system can help reduce social barriers. '''The project:''' A simple matching app that connects students based on interests and activity preferences, helping them find partners for casual meetups or group outings. '''Key tactics:''' * Include interest tags and availability matching.* Use campus email verification for safety.* Offer options for 1:1 or small-group matching.* Launch an MVP pilot focusing on a few popular activities.* Gather usage data and feedback to refine features. === '''7. Connection Booths''' ==='''What we learned:''' Not all students prefer digital tools; many appreciate low-tech, spontaneous ways to meet peers. We learned that tangible, physical prompts reduce awkwardness and make it feel easier to initiate contact. '''The project:''' Booths around campus with slips of paper listing students who have opted in for specific interests—such as hiking, coffee, or study meetups—allowing others to take a contact and connect. '''Key tactics:''' * Place booths in high-traffic areas.* Use opt-in slips with minimal but sufficient contact information.* Refresh booths weekly to keep options current.* Provide message templates to reduce first-contact hesitation.* Expand to more buildings once demand is confirmed. ==Promotion and Student Activities 2024/25== ====Eating More Green====Considering the various food options that exist at Lingnan University, and there are not any food sets offered with pure vegetables, we would like to set up a Green Gate that offers only vegetable sets with lower prices here. The steps that we planned are as follows: #Needs Assessment: Conduct surveys and focus groups to understand the specific needs and preferences of the student population regarding vegetarian meals.#Partnerships: Forming partnerships with local suppliers and vegetarian food brands to source high-quality ingredients at competitive prices.#Staff Training: Training canteen staff on preparing and handling vegetarian meals to ensure high standards of hygiene and quality.#Pilot Phase: Launch a pilot phase to test the Green Gate concept, gather feedback, and make necessary adjustments before a full-scale rollout.#Evaluation and Expansion: Regularly evaluating the success of the Green Gate through student feedback and sales data. Based on the evaluation, the initiative may be expanded to include more vegetarian options and additional services. The Green Gate at Lingnan University’s canteen represents a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and sustainable campus environment. By providing affordable and nutritious vegetarian meals, the university is catering to its students' diverse dietary needs and promoting a healthier and more environmentally conscious lifestyle. The initiative underscores Lingnan University’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and sustainability. ====PeerConnect: A Campus-Based Tutoring and Support Platform for Academic and Financial Assistance====We observed that students often face difficulties in academic learning. For instance, when they have questions about the courses they are taking, they may want to ask for help but might not feel comfortable approaching professors at all times, and their peers may not always have the answers. Additionally, we recognized the financial challenges university students encounter on campus, as many are responsible for covering their daily expenses. To address these issues, we proposed the creation of an online platform that connects students with tutors, who are also students that have completed the course within the past two to three semesters. These student tutors would be required to provide their grades for the course they wish to teach, along with their name, major, and language proficiency. Students seeking tutoring would input their language preferences and the grades they hope to achieve (e.g. from B+ to A) before searching for a match. The platform would randomly pair students with tutors, and all sessions would be conducted on campus, preferably in designated classrooms. Each tutoring session would last 30 minutes. Students would be responsible for paying 50% of the class fee, while the remaining amount, if possible, would be sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA). We estimate the fees to be $80 for a 30-minute session for beginner courses and $100 for more intermediate and advanced courses. ====Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign====To raise the awareness of Lingnan University's female students about breast cancer and highlight the importance of early detection and prevention while creating a supportive environment in which Lingnan University's male students can contribute to it. The campaign aims to empower and educate female students and their knowledge about their health. It can encourage them to take proactive steps toward their health and build an environment where female students can feel comfortable and confident to discuss their health concerns and seek advice from others, society and the university, as it fosters a great sense of community engagement among young girls. It can enhance the leadership and participation of female students in their rights for health and well-being while achieving a developed community in which males play a crucial part in protecting female health and themselves. With the collaboration and involvement of students, the university can perform and promote the strong empowerment of female students towards their bright future in the society. ====Accessibility of Sanitary Products====Until 2024, there are no convenience stores or markets within Lingnan University, meaning that if female students and staff need tampons or pads, they must walk to Fu Tai. While it is not that far, it can be inconvenient during urgent situations. In Hong Kong, it's still uncommon for public restrooms to provide sanitary products, which adds to the challenges many women face regarding menstrual health. This project explores options for providing sanitary products on campus to help ease period poverty. We are considering installing vending machines in female restrooms over the whole campus that would charge a small fee (HKD 0.5 - 1) for single-use products, with payments made via Octopus card to promote cashless transactions. The pilot trial would take place in the canteen floor bathroom as it is the most used bathroom by staff, students, and guests throughout the whole campus. We recognize the importance of accessibility to sanitary products and wish to generalize this initiative to ensure that at least one female bathroom in each building on campus is equipped with these vending machines. This will provide a more convenient solution for all female students and staff, addressing the urgent need for menstrual health resources across the university and society.

==== Careers Across Cultures (Talk Series) Food Around the World====[[File:Food Workshop Poster.jpg|thumb|Food Around the World Poster|link=Special:FilePath/Food_Workshop_Poster.jpg]]To introduce promote cultural inclusiveness in the campus as well as to bridge the gap between international and local students to various work cultures worldwide, we plan to hold a talk workshop series where students will learn how to make cuisines from different parts of the world. In this activity we invite emphasis peer teaching. This means that instead of inviting culinary professionals of different cultural backgrounds to teach students, we will be inviting a local or international student/s to share a traditional or popular delicacy from their own country and talk about their career experiences as well as give a demonstration on how the working environment to make it in their own countries differs from that front of Hong Kongother students. The talk We believe that peer learning is designed a great way to be interactive, including activities for increase interaction among local and international students and they would also get to participate learn about each other’s cultures in the process. The first workshop we organized was led by UIF member Angela Arcay where she shared a popular Philippine dessert called Mango Float, made only with mangoes, graham crackers, and a Q&A session. Students can also stay behind after each talk to do networkingcream.
==== Opinion Booth on Canteen Menu ====
In order to improve the quality of meals for employees and students, we plan to launch a collection of offline and online opinions. The purpose is to integrate the collected opinions and communicate with the canteen company to modify the existing menu so that the variety and price of the menu are more suitable for the needs of employees and students. We hope to build such a communication platform to jointly improve the campus life experience of staff and students and to convey the collected views to the university's stakeholders.
==== Food Cards @ Lingnan ====
To tackle the low efficiency of food ordering in the Lingnan Canteen and eventually enhance the overall catering quality, we plan to implement a food card scheme in the canteen to say goodbye to long queues. We no longer need long waits to order tour meals and save you time by combining our Lingnan student id card with a money deposit function that may even allow us to have a new payment method around the whole campus. We hope that launching our food card will have more accessible repair contacts within the campus and increase our sense of belonging at school. No more worries that your Octopus deposit card couldn’t be reloaded on campus, your food card does!<br />
'''Survey with Lucky Draw via Mass Email'''[[File:Survey Poster.png|thumb|388x388px|Online Survey with Lucky Draw|link=Special:FilePath/Survey_Poster.png]]To understand students' needs in life planning support, we have conducted a survey mainly ask about their satisfaction in the current status, whether they have a dream and whether the school's resource is effective. The survey was sent to the whole school by '''Lingnan Entrepreneurship and Innovation (LEI)''' department on behalf of University Innovation Fellows (UIF). A lucky draw with ten HK$50 supermarket coupons was given as incentives for the students. We used the mass email as an opportunity to promote University Innovation Fellows and our mission as well. It also served as an educational purpose where students can reflect a bit about their lives before our official functions.
