Vignan’s Institute of Information Technology (VIIT) was established in 2002 in the City of Destiny, Visakhapatnam, to cater to the educational needs of the general public. The experience gained by Vignan through its earlier institutions at Guntur has only helped in establishing very high quality standards right from the inception and also is one of the reasons for the success of the present institution. VIIT aims to produce globally competent engineers who are socially conscious, emotionally balanced and psychologically strong. VIIT envisions to be recognized leader in technical education and shall aim at national excellence by creating competent & socially conscious technical manpower for the current and the future industrial requirements and development of the nation.
Mission of VIIT include introducing innovative practices of Teaching Learning, undertaking Research & Development in Thrust Areas, continuously collaborating with industry, promoting strong set of Ethical Values and Serving the Surrounding Region and the Nation at Large.

Students get hands on experience on theory learnt through projects. While going through stages of data collection, compilation,analysis and interference students enhace their competencies like communication, critical thinking , management and inter-personal skills

Promoting student innovation and entrepreneurship

VIIT has always showed interest in innovation and entrepreneurial environment and puts its hands first to develop such skills in the students. As part of this, Entrepreneurship Development (ED) cell and Centre For Innovation (CFI) has been established in the VIIT campus, which creates a platform for students to express their ideas. Here the ideas will be groomed with the help of the faculty. Recently, VIIT has been recognised as host institution for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), a government of India scheme, which provides some space to flourish the ideas. The innovative ideas of the students help them to become successful entrepreneurs. Further to create and foster entrepreneurial culture among students Entrepreneurship club was started in the campus. Recently College Connect program run by TV5 News, under Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) was held, in which CEO’s of various companies interacted and motivated students to become entrepreneurs. Furthermore they also agreed to train the students to achieve their goals. ED cell and CFI conducts various workshops and awareness programs, like Entrepreneurship Awarness Camp by CED, Millionminds Startup Life by budding entrepreneurs, Drone designing, Zero waste management etc. Furthermore, many competitions at campus level and National level are conducted, which provides a platform for the students to present their ideas and raise funds. Along with Innovation & Entrepreneurship, VIIT concentrates on community service oriented activities. As part of it, NSS(National Service Scheme) has been introduced in the campus. The main objective of this scheme is education and service to the community and by the community.  Under this organisation, VIIT students have been participating in all societal activities.

Encouraging faculty innovation and entrepreneurship

Faculty at VIIT not only endeavour innovative thoughts among  students but also proposes many innovative projects, research proposals. The professors and assistant professors from various departments along with teaching students perform various research activities in their respective domains. In many cases they collaborate with the students to achieve excellent outcomes, which eventually lead to a start-up.  Our college also organises many faculty development workshops and guest lectures. Research facilities developed in the institute maintains active collaboration with other premier institutes/research organizations like IITs, NIITs, ,IISc Bangalore, Siemens’ Lab, BARC, Andhra University etc.

Facilitating university-industry collaboration

VIIT is successful in promoting the interaction of industry with various departments of Institution. The colleges creates awareness among the students through ED cell, Centre for Innovation(CFI), Centre for Engineering Exploration(CEER). Under CEER,  bridge course are given to upcoming batches of students, which creates awareness among students from the beginning of their B.Tech .Under CFI papers have been published and this space is used not just to train VIIT students but also students from other campuses. For workshops or awareness programs under CFI, VIIT has collaborated with organisations like Hobbypep, Green Waves Environmental Solutions. College Connect program run by TV5 News, under Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) is another initiative taken by the college to bring industry and institute closer. Regional sources for funding include Fundamental Skills for Manufacturing and Engineering (FSME) under MSME cell. Students looking for advise or mentorship for establishing their own companies can approach start-up mentor which is a business advisory program, under MSME. Different Memorandum of understanding (MOUs) are also signed up with various institutes and companies to increase the support to students. Microsoft conducts workshops and awareness sessions for CSE/IT students. It also visits the campus to hire students. Companies such as Amazon, MindTree, Infosys, IBM, Cap Gemini, Accenture, Cummins, Mitsubishi, Efftronics, VCTPL etc., regularly visit the campus for placements. Indian Navy is associated in terms of placements, awareness sessions and regular visits of senior navy personnel. The institute is a member of Infosys campus connect, TCS campus commune, Wipro Earthion, Google Student Ambassador, Microsoft Student Partner, etc.

 

Engaging with regional and local economic development efforts

VIIT is always actively engaged with regional and local economic development. VIIT is collaborated with Government of India programs like Young India (YI), Unnnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). More than 1000 students from VIIT are the members of Young India. Under YI members are responsible for planning and executing projects towards Nation Building. The projects deal with a range of topics such as cleanliness, road safety etc. Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is being coordinated and steered by IIT Delhi. The program involves engaging with neighbouring communities and using technologies for their upliftment. VIIT recently adopted 5 villages under UBA and is supporting them technically and financially, with the help of NSS students. College frequently participates in the local social service programs like road safety awareness program, health awareness camps etc. Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana facilitates the youth of our nation with the best technology and infrastructure, making them efficient and industry ready. Under PMKVY, college will be indentifying the unemployed youth and helping them develop skills.
