Bio

Hi, I am Naina Uppal! I am from Anaheim, CA, and currently a sophomore at Baylor University. I am majoring in History with a minor in Biochemistry, as I intend to attend medical school and become an OB/GYN. I am in the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core, an honors program focusing on diversifying thought and taking an examined approach to life. I now work for the program as a Peer Instructor for the World Cultures course.

When I am not studying or working, I love to spend time with my friends, watch a good movie or documentary, complete puzzles, and play board games. I am a big movie and comic book nerd, and I could talk for hours about my favorites. I am also a huge fan of traveling, and I love visiting historically significant sights and museums. I absolutely adore studying history and learning more about the world. I even seek out historical documentaries and shows in my free time.

I am extremely committed to the dissemination of learning and knowledge. I believe the lack of learning and willingness to learn is a root cause of many issues in modern society. We are never truly finished with our education, as we will continue to learn from every interaction in life. It is important to keep that open-mindedness of ongoing growth to work towards interdisciplinary solutions for complex problems. If we all took a little more interest in actively listening to each other, we would have the opportunity to learn more from each other and foster more connection.

My value of knowledge has led me to examine areas where knowledge and information are lacking. I feel called to contribute to research fields, academia, education systems, and more, to get more knowledge circulating globally. Currently, I am researching the recent impacts of maternal smoking on the fetal development of congenital abnormalities, and I hope to expand this research to the use of e-cigarettes as well. Women are put at a disadvantage regarding healthcare due to the lack of public awareness, education, and research on women's health. Most medical research has been conducted with male subjects and was just assumed to also apply to women, which is not the case. Recognizing the lack of information available, I hope to provide more so we can work towards better solutions for all involved.
