Michelle has a strong connection to cultural education as she grew up in a Christian, Ghanaian American household as the middle child of three. Culture has played a significant role in Michelle's life as she strived to bring me cultural awareness to her high school through different cultural events. Michelle has made it one of her goals to spread awareness about the importance of cultural education within the spaces she occupies.
Present
Due to her cultural background Michelle refused to pass up the opportunity to join the 2027 Multicultural Advancement Scholar (MAC) cohort at Central Michigan University. As a MAC scholar Michelle not only expands her knowledge on different cultures and backgrounds but she is able to share her own knowledge and experiences as a way of connecting with those who were not previously educated on Ghanaian culture and black culture in general. Being a part of the MAC program Michelle has become heavily involved with the Multicultural Academic office on campus. She has served on multiple committees including the Martin Luther King Jr. Committee, where she gave her input of events that would take place during the week and played the role as coach of the student basketball team for the charity fundraiser held during this week. Michelle also served on the International Unity Festival committee, where she also provided input on how different cultures would be showcased and represented at the event.
Due to Michelle's academic and personal success she got accepted into the Honors Program at Central Michigan University where she participates in volunteer activities and honors related activities. Michelle has connected with many people within this program and is still a part of this community.
Michelle has many unique experiences such as being the first person in her family to be born in America and being considered as a first-generation college student as well as a first generation American. These unique experiences have helped spaced Michelle's life and has given her a broader perspective of the different dynamics of life.
Passions
In her free time Michelle enjoys learning new languages and painting. Michelle has always loved to learn. Her parents, Daniel and Martha Amoo, instilled the importance of education in her from a young age and always expected her to strive for higher things. Michelle's parents have helped craft her morals and work ethic, showing her the importance of working hard to achieve the goals she has set. Michelle Amoo also enjoys testing new recipes and baking as food is one of Michelle's many love languages and it has also been one of her passions to become a well-seasoned cook. Michelle's mother Martha sparked her passion for cooking at a young age and it has been thriving ever since. These activities help Michelle achieve peak relaxation allowing her to become her best self.
Future Plans
In the future Michelle hopes to become a family lawyer concentrated on helping kids in the foster care and adoption system. Michelle's love for children has made her passionate about helping the tiny humans of this world as they are the ones who are bound to run the world in years to come. Michelle is not only passionate about helping the young children in the system but the teenagers in the system as well. Michelle strongly believes that the children and teens in the system deserve to have their voices heard and stories told. Michelle wants to give these individuals a voice and remind them that they are part of the progression of this world and that they too matter in this world.
Michelle believes that it is important to strive for a collaborative, selfless world that benefits all people of this world, not just a small handful of individuals.
