At Virginia Tech, Shafe is involved with the Biochemistry department building relationships and community within the University. In addition, he works to guide other Biochemistry students in identifying resources and figuring out a pathway for their academic success. In his free time, he likes to read up on what is happening with the markets and do cancer research on the side.
The beginning of 11<sup>th </sup>grade year, Shafe decided to start his own tutoring business after working for a tutoring company. Through his tutoring company he also provided free help for families that are applying for SNAP and TANF benefits. His passion for helping people has made his goals set into expanding his tutoring business to provide free online education through affordable cellular devices in countries where education is not as readily available.
