Since UIF, Alan has launched the Open Lab Days initiative on Kettering's Campus, including Open Foundry and Open Welding Days. In addition, he trialed Machine Shop Training Days.
In 2016, Alan also founded Kettering-bin, a student organization dedicated to student project creation and student project support. This organization successfully funded a class and its 5 student projects during its first term. </div></div>
