Jaime Arribas Starkey-El is currently a junior Engineering Physics honor student at Morgan State University. He is the president of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) and a very active member of several honor societies. He is also a member of the defending national champion Honda All-Star college bowl team at Morgan. Jaime has spent a significant amount of time doing Physics research in the Dixon lab at Morgan, researching topological insulators and assisting in the development of novel magnetic metal oxide thin films for magnetic device applications. In the summer of 2013, Jaime took part in a 10-week internship at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center working with the Next Generation X-Ray Optics (NGXO) technology development project. During the internship, Jaime created a bonding test to measure the static force behavior of epoxy bonds in satellite modules in order to determine optics distortion. He also wrote a detailed primer to the NGXO project for future members of the project. As a result of his diligent work, Jaime had his internship extended and was nominated as a NASA student ambassador. As a UI Fellow, Jaime would like to increase inovative and entrepreneurial spirit on campus.
