Camila Cornejo stands out as a fourth-year student in the asn Environmental Engineering program at Engineer from the University of Engineering and Technology in Lima, Peru. Since her school dayschildhood, she Camila has harbored been driven by a strong commitment desire to building a better futurecreate positive change. Influenced Inspired by her victories experience in various debate competitions, she developed a passion for leadership and social impact. She has steered herself towards the idea of making been a swimmer since she was a difference from her position child and has always enjoyed sports; today, she continues swimming and becoming has also developed a change agentpassion for running. She also loves reading, with "The Diary of Anne Frank" remaining her favorite book. Outside of work, she enjoys exploring Peruvian cuisine (loves Ceviche).

Throughout During her primary first years at university, Camila actively participated in startup and secondary financial educationinitiatives while volunteering as a tutor for children with limited access to educational resources. Believing that knowledge grows when it is shared, she remained active founded and led the UTEC Debate Society in the sports area as a swimmer2021, cultivating discipline organizing workshops and perseverancediscussion forums with public institutions. Besides her dedication to swimmingThat same year, she also greatly enjoys reading, with "The Diary of Anne Frank" standing out the society was recognized as her favorite book. She relishes culinary explorationthe Best Large Delegation at Latam MUN 2021, especially when it comes to seafood dishes from her countrywhere Camila also received an Honorable Mention.

FurthermoreIn 2022, she was elected Student Representative for the Science Department, Camila demonstrated advocating for improvements in the academic experience of her peers. Alongside this role, she became actively involved in environmental research through WER Science (Water and Environmental Research), leading a project focused on mitigating environmental impacts in marine ecosystems and further strengthening her interest in enriching water-related sustainability challenges.  Camila remained actively involved in the UIF community after completing the program, collaborating with other cohorts, mentoring new fellows, and sharing her experiences across different universities. Together with her 2023 cohort at UTEC, she developed a project aimed at reducing the dropout rate among first-year students by helping them adapt more effectively to university experience by being elected as life and strengthen their sense of belonging.  After attending the 2024 UIF Meetup in the Netherlands, she was offered the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) scholarship. In 2025, she completed a research internship at the spokesperson University of Alberta in Canada, where she contributed to a project focused on expanding access to safe drinking water for underserved communities. This experience strengthened her commitment to developing sustainable engineering solutions that could be adapted to the Science department in 2022Peruvian context. During this periodUpon returning to Peru, Camila translated those learnings into her bachelor's thesis, designing an autonomous water treatment device that complemented the technology she had worked with in Canada. The system was created to enhance provide remote communities with access to safe drinking water without requiring large-scale infrastructure, electricity, or specialized personnel, helping bridge the quality gap in access to clean water through an affordable and educational experience scalable solution. In 2026, this work received an Innovation Award in Environmental Engineering from the "Colegio de Ingenieros del Perú".  Today, Camila works in Peru's energy sector, contributing to environmental management in projects involving hydro, solar, wind, and thermal energy. Through her role, she helps ensure that energy generation minimizes environmental impacts while maintaining a reliable energy supply that meets the country's growing needs.  Looking back, Camila considers UIF one of the most transformative experiences of courses within her field of focuspersonal and professional journey.
