Overview
Founded in 1898, Peking University (PKU) is the first national university in Chinese modern history, and it is ranked as one of the top research universities in the world. Since its establishment, it has played an integral role in the advancement of knowledge and betterment of society. Over time, the University’s core values have been defined by the traditions of "patriotism, progress, democracy, and science," and governed by the academic standards of "diligence, equality, truth-seeking, and innovation."
Peking University (abbreviated PKU or Beida or in chinese “北京大学” or “北大”) is a comprehensive and national key university. It is the first modern national university established in China, founded as the Imperial University of Peking in 1898 as a replacement of the ancient Guozijian (Imperial College or in chinese “国子监”). It also served as the highest administration for education in China at the beginning of its founding. The campus, renowned for its beauty of traditional Chinese architecture, is known as "Yan Yuan”(the garden of Yan) , is situated at Haidian District in the western suburb of Beijing.
The university has effectively combined research on important scientific subjects with the training of personnel with a high level of specialized knowledge and professional skill as demanded by the country's socialist modernization. It strives not only for improvements in teaching and research work, but also for the promotion of interaction and mutual promotion among various disciplines. Thus Peking University has become a center for teaching and research and a university of a new type, embracing diverse branches of learning such as basic and applied sciences, social sciences and the humanities, and sciences of medicine, management, and education. In 2017, Peking University decided to establish the School of Innovation and entrepreneurship (Home Page: http://ostd.pku.edu.cn/index.htm) in order to promote the I&E education. The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Platform of Peking University is committed to create a rich entrepreneurial atmosphere on-campus and off-campus. The Education Platform offers a series of open courses at Peking University that teaches students the foundation of entrepreneurship. The course began in September 2012. It is the first university-level open course available in the area of innovation and entrepreneurship.
The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Platform also offers a Hands-on Entrepreneurship Program for the students. It consists of a series of one-to-one tutorials with mentors and guest lecturers from established businesses in China. The program will provide a nurturing and supportive environment for start-up companies. Angel funds will involve in the program.
A popular on-campus hot hub for student entrepreneurs is called the “PKU Student Entrepreneur Café”. The café is a project started by students from the Hands-on Entrepreneurship Program and is continuously being improved. It is a creative space where students can come together to engage in brainstorm sessions for their start-ups. The café stimulates students’ creativity and fosters a healthy and non-judgmental entrepreneurial environment.
In addition, the platform has founded the "Peking University Entrepreneur Forum" and the "Peking University Entrepreneurial Training Camp" to further connect successful entrepreneurs with PKU students in developing students’ hands-on business skills and passion for start-ups. The training camp is jointly organized by the PKU Alumni Affairs Office and the Peking University Entrepreneur Club, both of which are very supportive and resourceful partners.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship Research
In the fall of 2013, the platform established the China Innovation Index Research Center of the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Peking University. The center is dedicated to providing scientific, objective and accurate evaluation of innovation ability and innovation efficiency in this region. General Director Francis Gurry from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has been invited to act as the Honorary Chairman of the center, while Professor Dongmin Chen from the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Peking University has been invited to act as the Director, and Professor Zhiyong Dong as the Chief Economist.
The platform regularly organizes a series of academic forums, conferences, and workshops on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Such events include:

Summit:Global Youth Entrepreneurship Summit
A summit initiated by students in PKU in 2017, where they invited successful innovators, investors to deliver speech and product presentation.
It aims to empower students who are interested in innovation and inspire those who knows little about innovation.
Conference: (YGS 2.0) XINnovation: Identity of Innovation in China
A global symposium of 200 delegates from 54 countries held from March 23-26th, 2017. Leading thinkers and delegates alike engaged in an intensive four-day program aimed at exploring China’s understanding of “XIN,” covering a broad spectrum of technological and societal innovation.
