Fellow:Ryan Bailis

Ryan Bailis is a creative person with multifaceted talents and diverse interests. Some of his passions include cello performance, robotics, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Throughout his professional and educational development, Bailis has become increasingly interested in opportunities within managerial consulting, operational efficiency, reporting, and business analytics. His prowess for entrepreneurship, the design-thinking process, and technical engineering allow him to approach problems from multiple angles and develop innovative solutions.

At Bucknell, Bailis is the Undergraduate Executive Intern within the Engineering Dean’s office. In this role, he works to advance student affairs, manage college-wide projects, and develop transformative initiatives alongside other executive interns. Bailis also sits on a number of committees including Lectureship, the Library and Information Technology Student Advisory Group, the College of Engineering Student Board, and the Bucknell Brigade Steering Committee. In addition, Bailis works as a research assistant in the Compliant Materials and Robotics Systems Lab under the direction of Professor Keith Buffinton.

In regards to entrepreneurial leadership, Ryan served as co-leader of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Affinity House from 2018 to 2019. Under his direction, the program grew dramatically in size and scope, welcoming 20 new club members, hosting 12 speakers, and traveling on 2 major excursions. Similarly, Bailis has served as a Design Thinking Leadership Pre-Orientation Director from 2018 to 2019, a time of tremendous program development and campus-wide recognition. Finally, Bailis is a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity where he chairs the alumni relations and philanthropy committees.

As a University Innovation Fellow, Bailis is most excited to work on developing a framework for the advancement of an entrepreneurial curriculum. He believes there is much potential for a formalized approach to education within the realm of design, entrepreneurship, and innovation. He is also looking forward to meeting other fellows from around the world at the Silicon Valley Meetup in Spring 2020.
