Fall 2020 Priorities:

Our University is an I&E leader in our region, we serve as an example of diversity and humanity in our innovation projects, and we want to become even bigger and better.

With that purpose in mind, we want to be able to include even more students to our I&E community, that is our main focus. We want to give more students the opportunity to find their own place by helping others through their own projects and ideas, we want to make our ecosystem more inclusive and open so everyone feels welcome.

We want to pursue and continue our last fellow's ideals, by keeping up with their legacy and their different projects. .

The priorities we pursue are still highly related to get student closer to I&E ecosystem and help them to get advantage of every opportunity UDD has to offer.

Strategy #1: Design Thinking elective course

This strategy consist in creating an elective course that teaches "how to" and then puts in practice how to help small, already existing entrepreneurships by the digan thinking method.

With this course we seek to help student to put their knowledge to practice before facing the professional world, but also we hope that students put their knowledge in service of their own communities and can learn through the Service Learning methodology.

Tactic #1: Validate the idea

Present our idea to the Innovation department and the Economy Faculty.

Tactic #2: Get resources.

To bring this project to live, we need the resources to get teachers to work with us, a basic set of materials and the classrooms to teach.

Tactic #3: Partnerships.

We will use the university partnerships with entrepreneurs and the government to get to the people we seek to help.

Tactic #4: Get to work.

Start with a small course and with a few small local businesses.

Strategy #2: Innovation UDD App

This strategy seeks to upgrade all the I&E information from our web pages and bring it all together an easy access app.

Nowadays technology has a mayor impact in our lives and the pandemia has showed us just how easy it is to be connected with everyone and everything if you have the proper tools.

UDD is an I&E leader in our country, but there are many students who might feel left out just because they do not feel integrated or do not totally comprehend the innovation ecosystem, our new app is here to show them just how easy it is to participate.

Tactic #1: Present our project.

First, we will present our ideas and models to the Innovation and IT departments. With this, we open the doors to work together as a team.

Tactic #2: Get funds.

As we finish developing our idea as a team, we hope to get allocation funds to be able to continue with the next step.

Tactic #3: Design Contest.

We want to include our community to participate in the new app design, that way we can gather more information about how students want to access I&E.

Tactic #4: Ready to go!

With the winning designs make our new app a reality and make it part of our I&E ecosystem

Strategy #3: iThinking Challenges.

This project is about helping students to find the motivation to innovate.

We will base our open challenges on ONU's Sustainable Development Goals and try to move our student's cores to make them participate in this short challenges were we will look for solutions through Design Thinking and then take action as a group.

The Challenges have three steps :

  1. We expose our challenge on social media, on faculty TVs and other forms of advertising o.
  2.   We collect solution ideas in blackboards with post its in public uni spaces and we invite students to participate in short workshops.
  3. In this short workshops we seek real solutions through design thinking, and as a team we develop them and put them in practice.

Tactic #1: Validate idea

To start we will present this idea to the Change Agents Central, under the Innovation department, to map the project with them. We will also present this idea to the Students Affairs department to get all the permissions to use furniture and physical places.

Tactic #2:Try the idea out #0

We will take a small group of students who already participate in innovation projects and test our idea.

Tactic #3: Present what we learned.

After the prototype is tested, we will make the necessary changes and present our ideas again.

Tactic #4: Get our iThiking Challenges going! .

After we gain the university support, we will start with presenting our first challenge to the community.

Strategy #4: Talents Worshops.

This project is all about the students and helping them found their talents and purpose.

Tactic #1: The Teams.

Work with the university to put together teams of experts and model how the workshops are going to work with the specific departments.

Tactic #2: Funds.

As we need highly skilled professionals, funds are key to this idea. We seek to associate with the Students Support Center to get the funds we need.

Tactic #3: Publicity .

We will create short videos and attractive pictures to get to the students through social media.

Tactic #4: Ready!

Our workshops will be all about the students working in innovative ways to enhance personal development

Fall 2017 Priorities:

Since some time, Universidad del Desarrollo has invested many resources to improve the innovation and entrepreneurship enviroment by building a place just ment for that and by creating an amazing ecosystem to all of the students and personel that work there. The most importante place called Plaza i, let student's gather and discuss problems or/and create projects to solve any type of problem they find in our campuses.

Even with all the great things our university has done to improve this ecosystem and to make students feel interest to be a part of it, the current I&E ecosystem is a little bit confusing and complicated. This makes it hard for students to feel there's a place where they can gather whenever they want and where they realize problems can be solved.

Those are the reasons why not every student is keen to this ecosystem and why not everyone knows about everything that is available on campus. Along with that, there are interdisciplinary activities missing where students can get more tools about I&E and put in practice what they already know about those subjects.

The priorities are to get to the students, make them close to the I&E ecosystem and let them use every opportunity that is available on campus to make them better at what they do everyday and to make them feel they have the space to become great problem solvers.

Strategy #1: I&E Web Page

The strategy consists in a webpage that connects all the I&E information on UDD's campus

On the first page one can access to other I&E related links (from campus), such as iCubo and dLab. Besides that, it has three main parts:

One: A section with every course about I&E available plus one I&E community section. There, students can meet with others and speak about their ideas.

Two:I&E community, where they can schedule meetings and attend to different activities in “Plaza i” and “Espacio i”.

Three: Ideas and projects. This part is divided in 4 sections. These sections are the different stages of every idea or project. The first one is for students that have only one idea that they want to develop. The second one is for ideas or projects that already started developing. The third section is for ideas or projects that are more advanced, and the last one is for ideas that are finished developing and want to start entrepreneuring (make them real).

In everyone of these sections, there are different key points available, such as funds, people to co-work with, counseling, programs, incubators, etc. All of this information well classified in order to make the students get to the info, and not get the info to the students (we all get emails, but no one really cares about them, and a lot of students do not know about all the available opportunities to become an entrepreneur or innovate).

The idea here, is to make it simple and friendly. From students, to students.

Tactic #1: Validate the idea

Present the web page to other students and faculty members in order to get feedback and see if it's necessary or not.

Tactic #2: Prototype

Test a quick prototype to see if the idea works and if it is interesting for students.

Tactic #3: Official permission

Talk to the people in charge, get the necessary permission and funds to start developing.

Tactic #4: Web page launch

Launch the page and advertise it amongst students.

Strategy #2: Create interdisciplinary activities in common areas

This strategy consists in creating monthly challenges in common areas of all the students at university so people of different majors compete together to complete I&E challenges.

Students will have the chance to participate in an innovation and entrepreneurship challenge once a month to gain a prize. Each challenge will be about different subjects that involve this concepts, and students from different majors will have to conform teams in order to complete them.

Challenges can last 10 minutes or a week and prices will vary depending on that.

The monthly challenges will help students in different aspects:

  1. They will work in interdisciplinary groups. This will let students meet new people and work in future ideas that are not related in what they are used to do.
  2.  Students will have to test their abbility to listen and be patience on what others are proposing. This will let them gain more tools to use in their everyday.
  3. Challenges will make the I&E ecosystem grow because it'll gain more popularity in the student community.

Tactic #2: Test the idea.

The second step will be testing the idea in a common area to see if students get interested in participate on the challenge and to get feedback from them.

Tactic #3: Paperwork

Get the permission and support from the people who will help developing the project. Also, getting the funds or sponsorship to pay for the prices when need it.

Tactic #4: Ready to go!

Make the first activity for students in an innovative and creative way!

Strategy #3: Step by Step Innovation Program

The strategy consists in creating a “step by step” program in which students can acquire tools for detecting problems that affect our society and have new ideas for solving them.

This program will be divided on monthly sessions. Each month we will develop different contingent issues. We will have two meetings per month. Students will be divided in groups.

The first activity is talking about our educational problems. This activity had 2 parts:

  • First: write about problems that you can see.
  • Second: share what you wrote.

First part: We gave the chance to students from all the campus to meet us at Espacio I. We bought some candies for motivating them. The idea was to create a new instance in which students can talk each other and present what problems they see in our campus that can have a direct or indirect impact in our society.

We gave them a paper and asked them to write problems at our campus that might have impact in our city, so they can express calmly their vision about our problems.

Second part: After they wrote in the paper, we gave them the chance to speak and talk about the problem they think we have at the campus. Here is when students started talking each other and exchanging point of views of why this problems exist. Few students proposed well presented problems, the others were not able to do it.

Finished this activity we realized that most of students were not able to analyse deeply our educational system. They did not have enough tools to present problems in an appropriate way. Then, we knew that we needed a mentor who can give us that critical vision and empathy tools for being able to be at different positions and know how it feels. So, we decided to improve our program by having experimented mentors in our sessions so they can work with the groups.

Tactic #1: Validate idea

Before the big initiation, we need to talk with our managers so we can present them the program and get some feedback so that we can improve it.

Tactic #2: Meeting #0

We must test our idea and see how students react to this new program.

Tactic #3: “Yes, you can”.

We must ask for the adecuated permissions to the people in charge of Espacio I, so we can use that place.

Tactic #4: “We are in!”.

After all the tactics we can begin to develop our program.

Strategy #4: Change Places for Students

  • Design a poster and leave it in every computer as a wallpaper to motivate students to go to the Plaza i, and there they have an induction of the place.
  • Modification: Add to the screensaver (poster) an incentive, for example free pizza, to go visit the building.

Reflection: At first sight, some of the audience will be interested in going to visit the building, getting to know about what happens there, and take part of the projects. Also, it will probably be a minor number of people. Improving the screensaver with an incentive, can bring more people to get to know the place and later, eventually, become interested in the building itself and its projects.

Adaptation: At first, my idea was to make students aware of a place that could give them tools for innovation that they didn't have nor use through a publicity that was going to be deployed as a wallpaper in the lab. computers (wich are pretty much used by every student nowadays). But seeing the board made me realize that this could be a lot bigger, I think that if we manage to set a plan that develope this big abstract "innovation" concept through different and more tangible aspects like (mindsets philosophy, coding, etc) in a ten month period that could be displayed as a thematic publicity that engage with students in all ways (Social media, faculty banners, apparel, etc). A big opportunity could be created for different segments to relate. For example, entrepreneurs could be involved in the process so they can expose their projects to the students but also to different market sponsors that could be interested like (Hardware, software, telecommunications, etc) in the networks created. In this process, students can engage with entrepreneurs and even create relationships that could become collaborative projects. This of course enabled by a well designed program/campaing that could lure stundents to this activities.

Tactic #1: Validate the idea.

See if it is feeasible to change computer's wallpapers and carry out the campaign.

Tactic #2: Desing atractive material.

Design wallpapers and broadcast material, that can really atract stutend to the place.

Tactic #3: Ask for permissions.

We have to get the permissions to change computer's wallpapers, to be able to diffuse and use the building.

Tactic #4: Ready!

Do the activities and invitations. Very important: Buy the pizza! ;)
