Zach Crawford is in his third year at Western_Michigan_University as an Industrial and Entrepreneurial Engineering student and is a second year University Innovation Fellow. After studying both music and mathematics extensively in grade school, he knew he wanted to pursue a career path that was as technical as it was creative.

Early research work in the field of new product development affirmed his passion for Entrepreneurial Engineering and allowed him to be involved on his campus. Participation in a local startup initiative’s university wide business pitch competition, combined with working as a STEM Talent Expansion Program Mentor, put him in a public position to influence the growth of innovation at WMU.

Stemming directly from his experience and inspiration from other UIF fellows, Zach and fellow WMU member Mackenzie_Preston created the Innovation Club on Western's campus. This club provides a network of skilled multidisciplinary individuals who connect to share their skills and collaborate on projects.

Current projects for the Innovation Club include the construction of an Innovation Space which should be operational by the end of April 2016. This area will allow for open ideation and project prototyping with a 3D printer and CNC machine for any and all students.

When not working or studying, Zach enjoys the outdoors by trail running, playing sports, or fishing. Upon completing his degree, he looks to continue his involvement in entrepreneurial growth in Kalamazoo and West Michigan as a whole.
