Shannon is studying journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her specialization is in public relations. She is double majoring in global studies, with focus on international politics and Western Europe.

At UNC, Shannon lead a chapter of Design for America (tentative chapter, in the process of applying to the national network). She is passionate about design thinking and using this process to solve social issues. Additionally, she is one of the curators for UNC's annual TEDx conference. This year they are gearing this conference towards the maker movement and inspring students and community members to engage with their ideas in tanbible ways.

Shannon is also a part of UNC's student "Core Creators" team students collaborating to developing the programming and design of UNC's soon to be launched, fully-functioning maker space. The team is working with mentors and project planners to give student input on the creation of the space.
