Bio
Joshua is from Elkhorn, NE, and is studying Molecular and Biomedical Biology, Chemistry, and Medical Humanities. His non-profit experience includes partnering with Arbor Bank, a local Nebraska-based financial institution, to design an application that will collect data on the financial and investment needs of the community. Through the app, his team hopes to reach a younger audience that could drastically benefit from the financial consultation services Arbor Bank offers. In addition, this project hopes to create an interactive internship-building network that will connect prospective high school students in the community with business partners in order to build job competency and skill development. His internship experience includes working for the Munroe-Meyer Institute to design their dental clinic. This environment will accommodate the sensory needs of patients with intellectual or behavioral disorders and sensory-processing disorders. To complete this project, he is working with pediatric dentists from Children's Hospital and UNMC, fourth-year dental students, nurse practitioners, and hospital administrators. His career interests include surgical medicine, with an emphasis on orthopedics or neurology. He hopes to focus on clinical practice and participate in research and clinical trials. Additionally, he intends to help combat health disparities faced by vulnerable communities through innovative public health interventions and health care reform. Joshua also works in an educational clinical and surgical environment, assisting in creating immersive clinical simulations, mock patient encounters, and surgical skills lab experiences at UNMC.
Joshua enjoys spending time pursuing his musical interests. He plays an array of instruments, including saxophone, piano, guitar, and bass. He volunteers as a musician at his church's worship team and as a volunteer leader in its youth ministry. He has spent significant time performing with jazz ensembles, concert bands, marching bands, and orchestras. He also shares a passion for soccer as a player and a fan. He is excited to learn how to pursue these hobbies while striving towards making his career dreams a reality.
