Jatavion Jackson is a senior sociology major at Louisiana Tech University. Growing up in a small town in northern Louisiana, early on Jatavion took on many leadership roles and responsibilities in his community. Beginning with the church, he quickly rose as a prominent Youth and Young Adult ministry leader, hosting various community wide events. Some of these events include Zion Hill Baptist Church (ZHBC) annual Youth and Young Adult Musical, ZHBC's Annual Back to School Bash, and ZHBC Annual Christmas program to name a few. Outside of the church, Jatavion has also planned and facilitated many local events through his Alma Mater, Doyline High School. While still in high school, he worked on the student council as class president his entire high school career, planning local events such as Doyline's October Fest and the towns Annual Christmas Festival. Even today he routinely returns to his hometown to help in many of these local events.

At Louisiana Tech, Jatavion immediately began working. He joined the Black Student Union to become more involved in minority affairs on campus. He also joined the Feminist Movement to help combat antifeminism on campus and in the world. Jatavion became a member of the greatest fraternity in the world, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., in Fall of 2018. Through his fraternity Jatavion has made many connections throughout the community to help increase voter awareness, combat racial injustice, and provide young men with the tools they need to survive in life. Jatavion has also been a counselor for GEAR UP Louisiana for two consecutive summers. GEAR UP Louisiana is a summer program that provides rising high school students with the tools to succeed in high school and beyond. The program enriches kids with knowledge they will need to get in the best possible position to excel in highs school and college.

Jatavion has many passions and hobbies. He enjoys reading, writing and music. Jatavion has long been a lover of athletics and was All-state in track and field and an All-Parish point guard in high school. He has a strong passion for film and acting, which started as a young boy. His love for films stems from watching movies with his mom and grandparents. Jatavion plans to pursue filmmaking and acting, where he will act in and direct many subjects he is adamant about. Subjects include, but are not limited to inner city and rural poverty among the black community, suicide awareness, and racial inequality in America.
