Bio

Gwen was born on September 9th, 2005, in West Virginia. She graduated from Roane County High School as the valedictorian in 2024, and is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering with an environmental emphasis and a minor in Occupational Safety at Marshall University.

During her childhood, Gwen loved anything math-related. This fascination was fueled by her grandmother, Kim King, who holds a Master's Degree in Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology. Kim was Between endless LEGO constructions and constant travel to wonder at old architecture, Gwen's future career was cemented in her mind before she even reached high school.

On a deeper level, Gwen grew up surrounded by poverty. West Virginia was once a booming area for the coal mining industry, and without that support, the economy has struggled, and the infrastructure has broken down. Seeing this reality every day, living in it, changed the way she looked at the world around her and inspired her to push for community self-reliance: grow your own food, collect your own water, shop local, hire local. This experience is where the environmental emphasis of her degree comes from; she saw the devastation to the beautiful people and environment of West Virginia, and wanted to find ways to help.

As a college student, Gwen is active in several clubs and organizations, including Student Government, Greek Life, and Engineering clubs. She has used these connections to organize community service events and introduce change on campus. Her dream is to create a campus garden or hydroponics lab that could supply small amounts of vegetables to students, and possibly replicate this setup in abandoned buildings around West Virginia to aid communities in need.

Right now, Gwen spends most of her time doing homework and missing her dog that's back home, but she has big dreams and even bigger plans to achieve them!
