Bio
Maureen Scott is a very dedicated undergraduate Biology professor and mentor at Norfolk State University (NSU). She has been teaching for over 25 years, and enjoys serving as a Research Advisor and Academic Mentor/Advisor Maureen is the advisor of the Beta Kappa Chi National Scientific Honor Society (BKX) and NIS at Norfolk State University. She is privileged and honored to serve as the National President Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Honor Society and she serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of College Honor Societies.
Maureen Scott is an Environmental Science Researcher. During her Environmental Studies Research Series 2004- Present, Mrs. Scott’s three researchers, who were NSU Biology majors received the Prestigious Environmental Protection Agency GRO Undergraduate Fellowships. She has served as Research Mentor/Advisor to over 35 undergraduate researchers that are successful scientists. Under her guidance and mentorship, Norfolk State University’s STEM students and BKX members have received numerous national research awards and fellowships. Maureen, as a Mentor/Sponsor, has taken NSU STEM students to over 60 research conferences throughout the nation. She has received several research awards in recognition for her dedication and service in teaching, mentoring, and research.
Achievements
Board of Directors for the Association of College Honor Societies. Received numerus national and local STEM mentor Awards. Mentored and taken students to over 50 research National conferences.

A few of Maureen Scott awards include Excellence Award of the year at Norfolk State University Award for Outstanding Service Biology Department 2023. 2022-2023 Summer Research Award At Norfolk State Norfolk State University, Mentor Award awarded the 2016 Community Mentor of the Year Award Girls with Goals Alliance, 2016 Outstanding Mentor Award WBHR-LSAMP , Howard University, Washington, DC, 2015 “Outstanding Advisor of the Year” College of Science, Engineering and Technology, Norfolk State University, 2014 “Outstanding Service Award” College of Science, Engineering and Technology, Norfolk State University, Norfolk State University’s College of Science, Engineering, and Technology (CSET) awarded her the 2012 “Outstanding Research Mentor Award of Excellence”, and the 2011 “Service Contributor of the Year Award”. In additional National 2013 Science Trailblazer Award from the Black Engineering Conference in Washington, DC.
