New Mexico State University Student Priorities
My name is Jaymie Marie Velasquez, and I was born and raised in Santa Fe, NM but have been in Las Cruces, NM since 2011 for college. I am a LOVER of learning and knowledge, (which comes from my mother who is a Kindergarten teacher and my dad who is a rancher turned civil engineer), and have spent my college career just being inspired by all the different kinds of people around me. College for me needed to be about ME, and all the things I wanted to experience or learn how to do and the person I aspire to be, not just what classes I needed to fulfill my degree requirement. It, in many ways has been a scholastic academic playground: I changed majors four times, and took horseback riding classes, Spanish classes (that led to my first degree), and dance classes (that led to joining a Latin/Ballroom company). I cannot say enough about the adventure it has been, and I am having entirely way too much fun with the journey. I consider myself a literary mind, and would at some point love to get a graduate degree in literature or Chicano studies, but at the moment am finishing up my undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering.
I am not certain at this point what my next step will be upon completion of my undergraduate degrees, but I am passionate about STEM education, curriculum instruction, technology development, and above all know that I will be successful and resourceful in whatever endeavors I pursue.
