Austin Thomas is a sophomore mechanical engineering major at University of New Haven. Austin is interested in manufacturing with an emphasis on
material properties and automation. He is employed by a professor to assist students with 3D printing and prototyping in the university’s new makerspace. He is also an honor student who in 2016 participated in Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF), where he developed and completed an apparatus to measure the friction acting in a commercial semiconductor polishing process. Austin is a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and is involved with promoting events associated with Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN). In his free time, he enjoys playing stringed instruments such as the guitar, bass, and ukulele.
