STRATEGIES TO ENHANCE I&E ECOSYSTEM:
STRATEGY 1: OFFERING A COURSE FOR ALL THE STUDENTS IN THE COLLEGE FROM I&E CELL
I&E cell enhances the creative thinking abilities of a student. It aims at bringing out the entrepreneurial skills of a student. In order to make I&E more effective, introduction of a course that focuses on innovation, is essential.
Ø First, care should be taken in framing the course and syllabus. It should be a interactive course without putting more burden on the students.
Ø Next, the challenge is to introduce this course to the students of all the disciplines. Preferably in the second year itself, this course should be made as a part of the curriculum. Mr.Chokkanathan, co-ordinator of I&E cell shall teach the course. It would be apt to name the course as 'Basics of Innovation & Entrepreneurship'
Ø Maximum of 200 students shall be taken in for the course during the semester. Every semester this course shall be offered
Ø Since there are students from different branches, we planned to have the classes during 3 - 4 , where atleast students from few branches have a free period. It shall be a 30 hour course.
Ø A minimum of 60% is required to compplete the course successfully.
Ø Students shall be provided 3 credits for the course.
Ø Department Of Management Studies shall also be involved in teaching the course
Ø As a part of course, various activities related to innovation, few workshops need to be implemented.
Ø To make learning more interesting, students should be given more opportunities to share their ideas and knowledge.
Ø At the end of the course, students must be asked to identify a problem within their class and come up with the possible solutions and select the best one. This can be done by interaction with fellow students. Students can take help from the club coordinators regarding this aspect.
Ø Instead of having a normal evaluation process that generally involves written tests, students can be assessed based on their performance regarding solving the problem that they have identified.
STRATEGY 2: MAKING I&E INTERDISCIPLINARY
I&E is not limited to just Management department. It is useful for all the students from different disciplines. It is just about solving problems in an innovative manner. So it’s important that students from all the branches feel that even they can be entrepreneurs and even they can solve the real life problems.
To do this, there must be activities in I&E cell, that bring together students from various disciplines. Different games and programs can be conducted initially by Entrepreneur Cell. During these sessions, students get to know about each other. This helps them develop their interpersonal skills. After this is done, students can form a group if they are interested and share with their friends in their branch, their experiences. Then the concept of inter-disciplinary projects can be introduced to them. Since the students already know each other, it wouldn’t be a problem to come up with the project ideas. Interaction with fellow students would also not be a problem. They may face problem regarding the technicalities of the project since each student is from different branch. To make it more comfortable and easier for the students, there shall be a coordinator for each batch whom they can consult for any problems they face regarding the technical details of the project. There shall be a coordinator I each department from I&E cell to make sure that all the activities are going on as per the plan.
STRATEGY 3: TRAINING THE STUDENTS ON LATEST TECHNOLOGIES
Ø Students who are really interested in innovative thinking must be identified with the help of coordinators.
Ø They must be given chance to organize workshops. Instead of the faculty member organizing a workshop, it will be better if students are given the chance because they get know the art of coordination, patience, interpersonal skills and they even learn how to manage time and people.
Ø Certain amount of time must be given to them to plan for different workshops (preferably a month or so )
Ø Faculty members assist these students. They even get the support from Dr.Ch.Rama Prasada Rao, Dean, IIIC (Industry-Institute Interaction Cell)
Ø Various details of the workshop must be collected from these students and if there are any changes that need to be made, I&E coordinator shall take care of these things.
Ø I&E coordinators play a very significant role here. They take responsibility if something wrong happens and try to fix the problem. They need to take care of checking if the students actually planned for the workshop.
Ø So in a year at least 12 workshops shall be conducted. This is because there are many students who are interested and everyone gets a chance. Since it’s students who organize the workshop, they learn a lot of things.
STRATEGY 4: MAKING I&E PROJECTS MORE USEFUL FOR THE SOCIETY
Ø It’s essential that the projects that are designed must be of some use to the society. Awareness must be created among the students regarding this matter. Talks from various experts from the industries shall the very helpful in motivating the students. Even students can motivate their juniors regarding innovation. Students can even take up the responsibility of organizing these talks. Alumni also take interest in the welfare of the college so we can even take help from alumni of the college. Regarding the financial matters, projects useful for the society shall be funded till 1000$ under TEQIP(Technical Education Quality Improvement Program). The budget shouldn't exceed $1000
Ø It must be ensured that the project should be of less cost so that it is accessible easily.
Ø Stakeholders must interact with the students regarding the problems of society.
