Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University is a smaller land grant institution settled in Hills of Normal, Alabama, affectionally known as A&M. A&M was founded in 1875 by Dr. William Hooper Councill, a former slave. Councill was sold into slavery in Normal and vowed to return and reclaim this land for a better purpose. Today, A&M's current president is Dr. Daniel K. Wims and the campus is home to over 6,000 students and 4 different colleges.
