 Need

The need identified in this "How To" is to engage first year students in design thinking. A popular topic in the UIF exploration of higher education is the incorporation of design thinking; which when incorporated into curriculum is highly beneficial.Through this article we discuss how to engage first year students in design thinking with advice from current fellow, Krusha Shah. She is from Bartlett, IL (northwest suburb of Chicago) and attends Saint Louis University. She also helps students through the challenges of their first year study with study tips, creating assignments. In other words, she did her best to help them figure engineering out and ensure that this is the correct area of study for them.

Objectives

 Design thinking is frequently leveraged as a tool for solving problem, it is need to have design thinking for freshers and there is a quote Tall trees will grow on a Solid foundation. Implementing design thinking for freshmen will have a significant impact to engage with the new students by imparting a design thinking tool set & mindset. The efficiency of the team’s project work will increase the overall quality of life. The students really resonated with the idea of human-centeredness and how empathy could be carried through the distinct stages of the process.  Freshmen must stick together. They’re going out with people who you don’t know and you’re just meeting more along the way. Everyone is super friendly in general and that’s a great vibe. The fellows are tasked with identifying a need in their community, creating and testing solutions just the kind of project that can use a little creativity! And it will work through the projects by teaching them some methods, mindsets and skills of design thinking.

Why Design thinking?

 So many times, we get together to solve a problem and nothing is accomplished—it’s frustrating. Sadly, many approaches to solving business challenges are misaligned for assorted reasons pick your poison. Innovative, business changing ideas can be fleeting at times, but that’s the gist of what design thinking helps address.Design thinking is a proven and repeatable problem-solving protocol that any business or profession can employ to achieve big results. Design thinking combines creative and critical thinking that allows information and ideas to be organized, decisions to be made, situations to be improved, and knowledge to be gained. It’s a mindset focused on solutions and not the problem.

 

Promotions and Time framing

       For maximum participation in the event, picking the timing when most take part in the event. If the event planned during class times, seeking permission will be greater task. Putting yourself in their shoes and letting them know about inputs and outputs will make them to participate

 

Academic Permissions

 Academic permission are to be taken from the management to make design thinking course as a part of curriculum so that every student can imbibe design thinking skills and knowledge ever since from the very first year this helps students to reshape themselves in order to achieve this we need a strong recommendation and support from faculty and management if we can achieve this that will act as our first success in introducing design thinking to fresher’s.

 

 

Management

 Management should grant permission for allocation of rooms or seminar halls to conduct events and to provide required accessories and allotting faculty can be done only through the administrators or management

 

Space

 For any workshops, you conduct we should find space in campus that will accommodate people and other needs like mobiles, white boards, chairs, desks etc., and take permissions to use all these from authorities in our campus.

 

 

Students

 These events will be conducted in various stages starting from basic level to higher levels so that trainer can train the freshers to their maximum and people who are interested will be awarded, in this way we can create enthusiasm among students. According to Krusha shah and Christine Maida they conducted events in rather fun way so that they can develop more bonding between trainers and students. People who are really interested in can excel in their path.

Faculty

 Faculty is the person who acts as a sink of knowledge and guides us to perform more effectively on design thinking some important duties that include are:

•  Acting as a bridge between entrepreneurs and trainers
•  Mentoring in projects for perfection
•  Conducting activities in more practical manners which acts like a fun sessio
