'''STRATEGY 2: ''''''How do we want to support projects in our college?'''

I&E is not limited to just Management department. It is useful for all the students from different disciplines. It is just about solving problems in an innovative manner. So it’s important that students from all the branches feel that even they can be entrepreneurs and even they can solve the real life problems.
+
Actually we do not have this project park and now we are going to implement it in the way mentioned below.

To do this, there must be activities in I&E cell, that bring together students from various disciplines. Different games and programs can be conducted initially by Entrepreneur Cell. During these sessions, students get to know about each other. This helps them develop their interpersonal skills. After this is done, students can form a group if they are interested and share with their friends in their branch, their experiences. Then the concept of inter-disciplinary projects can be introduced to them. Since the students already know each other, it wouldn’t be a problem to come up with the project ideas. Interaction with fellow students would also not be a problem. They may face problem regarding the technicalities of the project since each student is from different branch. To make it more comfortable and easier for the students, there shall be a coordinator for each batch whom they can consult for any problems they face regarding the technical details of the project. There shall be a coordinator I each department from I&E cell to make sure that all the activities are going on as per the plan.

'''Project Park:'''
 +

 +
We are in the process of implementing this in our college .Students will have some ideas regarding their streams and they will certainly make projects. So we are planning to conduct a 3-5 day park in our campus. It means that all the projects related to every stream like computers, electronics, mechanical and many other branches can exhibit them in the park .Through this they will show all their ideas i.e. their projects and an invitation will be sent to other colleges and industries so that people come and see all the projects and buy them for the amount mentioned. Another outcome from this is, from college level itself a student can get the hope that they have done good projects and sold it for good amount which makes them get inspired to start a kind of business which in turn leads them towards entrepreneurship and finally can become entrepreneur.

'''How are we going to achieve this?'''
 +

 +
In the process of completing the projects successfully students need the resources, money, guidance from I&E. So, I&E is planning to have the following resources
 +

 +
1. It takes almost 3 to 4 months to complete the projects.
 +

 +
2. Students must form into groups of 4(maximum of 2 from each department) and select a mentor of their choice from each department. This makes the project inter-disciplinary.
 +

 +
3. In a week’s time, students start working out on their projects.
 +

 +
4. In order to make sure their projects are going on as per schedule, they have to send their progress monthly to faculty whom they opted as their mentor
 +

 +
5. If anyone wants to add extensions to their project and need financial support, they get ‘seed money’ of about $1600
 +

 +
6. They have to wait for one month to get the requested seed money K. Chokkanathan, I&E cell coordinator takes care of these. This request process is done in the month of March.

And finally we are planning to exhibit it in the month of March-2017.We are going to present all the projects which are better and useful to the society. So after presenting these projects in the March-2017 all the industries and companies who have visited the park can have a chance to buy those projects and ultimately leads students towards entrepreneurship.

'''STRATEGY 3:''' MAKING CLASSES INTER-DISCIPLINARY:
 +

 +
To get all the students under an umbrella is the main aim. At present, students sit in the allotted classes according to their departments. Where they sit only with the peers in their department and they don’t have any kind of interaction with other department students, which is a major drawback for the student to do inter-disciplinary projects for upcoming years. So, here we came up with a solution to implement that, initially when students enter the college, instead of dividing them into different sections based on their branch, we shall divide them in a manner that ensures that a class contains students from various departments. In the class of 72 students, 12 students shall be from each department (total 6 departments). Taking the help from Mrs.Prathiba, Administration Officer and Mrs.Athar Sameena Khan, Student Welfare Officer, we finalize the division process. This shall be implemented for the next academic year (2017-18).

We have various clubs in our college established in 2015 like English Language Club, Arts Club, Yoga Club, Event Management Club. Inspite of having these many clubs we don’t have specific space to discuss all the problems of the students. So ,we are planning to have a special room for this purpose in order to solve the problems of students regarding clubs and all the other  issues faced by the students

 +
'''What is the process?'''
 +

 +
1. We planned to have club coordinator meeting from all clubs on  October 28th.
 +

2. By taking the decisions from them we request for space in our college.
 +

3. Finally we will acquire the space/room by the end of the November

'''IDEA GENERATION WEEK:'''
 +

 +
In the clubs we plan to implement Idea generation week after 2 months. Every week we take the feedback from the activity. And every month, we see if there are any ideas that are useful for the projects. If there are any ideas like that, we guide the students to Innovation Cell. If an idea related to Arts comes up, we advise the student to consult the co-ordinator. So we generally guide the students to respective clubs depending on the ideas. The sessions of Idea generation week last for an hour or so. Students from first year can participate in this. A number of 20 would be a good one to start this in January 2017.
 +

 +
'''How do we implement?'''
 +

 +
1.We  shall have a co-ordinator from third year.

Ø  Students who are really interested in innovative thinking must be identified with the help of coordinators.
+
2.We meet during Saturday evenings.

Ø  They must be given chance to organize workshops. Instead of the faculty member organizing a workshop, it will be better if students are given the chance because they get know the art of coordination, patience, interpersonal skills and they even learn how to manage time and people.
+
3.We start this process in January 2017 (taking into considerations the semester exams ahead)

Ø  Certain amount of time must be given to them to plan for different workshops (preferably a month or so )
+
4.Students can come up with different ideas in these sessions.

Ø  Faculty members assist these students. They even get the support from Dr.Ch.Rama Prasada Rao, Dean, IIIC (Industry-Institute Interaction Cell)
+
5.We planned an activity called ‘Crazy thinking’ where students need to tell the use of a commonly used product in a different manner.

Ø  Various details of the workshop must be collected from these students and if there are any changes that need to be made, I&E coordinator shall take care of these things.
+

Ø  I&E coordinators play a very significant role here. They take responsibility if something wrong happens and try to fix the problem. They need to take care of checking if the students actually planned for the workshop.
+

Ø  So in a year at least 12 workshops shall be conducted. This is because there are many students who are interested and everyone gets a chance. Since it’s students who organize the workshop, they learn a lot of things.

'''STRATEGY 4:  MAKING I&E PROJECTS MORE USEFUL FOR THE SOCIETY'''
+

Ø  It’s essential that the projects that are designed must be of some use to the society. Awareness must be created among the students regarding this matter. Talks from various experts from the industries shall the very helpful in motivating the students. Even students can motivate their juniors regarding innovation. Students can even take up the responsibility of organizing these talks. Alumni also take interest in the welfare of the college so we can even take help from alumni of the college. Regarding the financial matters, projects useful for the society shall be funded till 1000$ under TEQIP(Technical Education Quality Improvement Program). The budget shouldn't exceed $1000
+

Ø  It must be ensured that the project should be of less cost so that it is accessible easily.
+

Ø  Stakeholders must interact with the students regarding the problems of society.

Revision as of 13:41, 21 October 2016

                                                                 STRATEGIES TO ENHANCE I&E ECOSYSTEM:

STRATEGY 1:    OFFERING A COURSE RELATED TO I&E FOR ALL THE STUDENTS IN THE COLLEGE

I&E cell enhances the creative thinking abilities of a student. It aims at bringing out the entrepreneurial skills of a student. In order to make I&E more effective, introduction of a course that focuses on innovation, is essential.

1. First, care should be taken in framing the course and syllabus. It should be a interactive course without putting more burden on the students.

2.  Next, the challenge is to introduce this course to the students of all the disciplines. Preferably in the second year itself, this course should be made as a part of the curriculum. Mr.Chokkanathan, co-ordinator of  I&E cell  shall teach the course. It would be apt to name the course as 'Basics of Innovation & Entrepreneurship'

3. Maximum of  200 students shall be taken in for the course during the semester. Every semester this course shall be offered

4. Since there are students from different branches, we planned to have the classes during 3 - 4 , where atleast students from few branches have a free period. It shall be a 30 hour course.

5.  A minimum of 60% is required to compplete the course successfully.

6.  Students shall be provided 3 credits for the course.

7.  Department Of Management Studies shall also be involved in teaching the course

8.  As a part of course, various activities related to innovation, few workshops need to be implemented.

9.  To make learning more interesting, students should be given more opportunities to share their ideas and knowledge.

10.  At the end of the course, students must be asked to identify a problem within their class and come up with the possible solutions and select the best one. This can be done by interaction with fellow students. Students can take help from the club coordinators regarding this aspect.

11.Instead of having a normal evaluation process that generally involves written tests, students can be assessed based on their performance regarding solving the problem that they have identified.
